Joe McCain Called 911 Because He Was Stuck in Traffic!

I know that being in "Communist Country" - Alexandria, in this case - is stressful an all. And I know that it's particularly stressful to be stuck in traffic; heck, most people in northern Virginia, including the infamous "Communist Country" of Arlington and Alexandria, are caught in traffic jams almost every day. But it's got to be particularly stressful when you're the brother of a presidential candidate who's getting his butt kicked in that very same "Communist Country" you called "Communist Country," helping to turn the voters of heavily populated - and increasingly Democratic - Northern Virginia against him.

Seriously, though, this takes it to another level for the Brothers McCain:

We have the tape of a 911 call made by John McCain's brother earlier this week.

He called the police emergency line because he was angry he was stuck in traffic.

The 911 call came into the City of Alexandria on Oct. 21st That's creating some buzz because it appears to come from Joe McCain, John McCain's brother.

Operator: 911 state your emergency

Caller: It's not an emergency but do you know why on one side at the damn drawbridge of 95traffic is stopped for 15 minutes and yet traffic's coming the other way?

Operator: Sir, are you calling 911 to complain about traffic? (pause)

Caller: "(Expletive) you." (caller hangs up)

OK, that's bad enough. But wait, there's more!  That's right, it actually gets worse after the first call, as Joe McCain actually dialed 911 AGAIN, this time "to complain about the message the operator just left him, warning him such use of 911 is criminal."

Not surprisingly, the John McCain campaign has had no comment as of yet. Undoubtedly, they're too busy trying to respond to other insane comments by their candidate, his running mate, and their spokespeople about "socialists," "anti-Americans," "real Virginia," "patriotic parts of America," "Communist Country," etc, etc, etc.  What a campaign, what a candidate!

Runs in the family, evidently. (Pain - 10/23/2008 6:11:36 PM)

Both McCains needs some anger management counseling.

Brothers are always a problem (Teddy - 10/23/2008 6:20:44 PM)
for any President, and hasn't John McCain given every indication he's entitled, it's his turn to be President? Let's see, Bill Clinton's bro embarrassed him, Neil Bush had a little bank problem with Silverado or some such... it goes with the turf. When will you peasants learn that the New Elite have certain prerogatives and privileges? Such privileges include being clad out of campaign funds, and not being stuck in traffic like normal mortals. Of course, the 911 call may have been a false flag nasty set-up by one of those Communists who live in Communist Country and resent the McCains. Did you think of that?

The problem is, John's no better (Lowell - 10/23/2008 6:23:35 PM)
Think of all the batshit crazy things he's said during this campaign. Can anyone honestly say that John McCain is any less insane than Joe McCain?

Yes, (BP - 10/23/2008 6:29:23 PM)
...we comma-nists here in Northern Virginia are a sneaky and clever bunch.  It might be that one of us paid a cast member from Saturday Night Live to impersonate Joe just to make him look bad.

Billy Carter . . . (JPTERP - 10/23/2008 7:35:28 PM)
Roger Clinton.  It is an pretty odd and consistent presidential candidate quirk.

What's especially crazy here is that Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton at least had the good judgment not to use unhinged younger siblings as official campaign surrogates.

Calling 9-11 to complain about traffic?  That's gotta be a first.

(inaudible) (NP - 10/23/2008 7:57:08 PM)
He calls the police and uses profanity.  For this to have been a set up they had to put a phone message about wanting john to win on the cell phone.  I think it is too corny to be a set up.  This rather dumb brother was caught with his pants down.

"Hi this is Joe McCain I can't take this message now because I'm involved in a very (inaudible) important political project... I hope on Nov. 4th we have elected John."

I Thought This Must Be A Joke (BP - 10/23/2008 6:19:34 PM)
Apparently, it isn't.

Joe the Brother is even more fun than Joe the Plumber.  Is there anything we can do to make sure he's interviewed as often as possible between now and November 4?

Yes. (Pain - 10/23/2008 6:39:26 PM)

Just make sure he's always in traffic [not hard in commieville] and he'll just keep phoning in his interviews.

Btw -- this is one that should be . . . (JPTERP - 10/23/2008 7:37:19 PM)
cross-posted at DailyKos -- it might pick up some more attention there.  Stewart and Colbert could have a ball with this one.

"I'm NOT my brother. . . . . . . (buzzbolt - 10/23/2008 7:53:30 PM)
"I'm not my brother; if you want to run against my brother he's in traffic on the Wilson Bridge."  JMcC

Ha! (legacyofmarshall - 10/23/2008 8:30:12 PM)
This is ripe for Countdown's "Worst Person"

Stay on Target (snolan - 10/24/2008 8:53:23 AM)
I don't think this helps us keep the electorate focused on issues and financial crisis.

Not saying Joe McCain was right to resort to a criminal act, but traffic can be pretty damned frustrating, and I would not hold any adult responsible for the actions of their adult brother (though I might ask them to publicly condemn the more foolish actions).

I think we have much more important fish to fry:
John McCain's complete lack of preventative action while chair of the commerce committee
John McCain's spiteful, angry rhetoric towards foreign powers and the impact of that on our foreign policy
John McCain's position on women's choices and supreme court justices
You all know the litany...   let's get to work....

Oh - wait... JPTerp points out (snolan - 10/24/2008 9:05:59 AM)
that this adult brother is working in the John McCain campaign...

hmmmm

Campaign surrogate (LoudounLad - 10/24/2008 9:39:24 AM)
I think that is a major distinction to make -- that Joe McCain is not just his brother. Still, I wonder what the desperate John McCain supporters would do if this story becomes a major issue. There are some who'd probably love an excuse to bring up Obama's "different" siblings.

Right, that's my thinking . . . (JPTERP - 10/24/2008 6:04:48 PM)
Family isn't a matter of choice for a candidate.

Campaign surrogates are.

Joe McCain has been making robo-calls for John in Virginia and has made some public appearances -- he is part of the campaign.

Ultimately, it's a side show, and not a central issue, but the actions of campaign surrogates do reflect on the candidate, so they are relevant.

Uh, Joe McCain is a major campaign surrogate (Lowell - 10/24/2008 9:09:20 AM)
for John McCain. When Joe called Arlington and Alexandria "Communist Country," that was a big news story and Joe was forced to apologize.  I see no difference this time, except that what Joe did was ILLEGAL, as the 911 operator pointed out, so it's even WORSE than the "Communist Country" comment.

Yeah, I am smacking my own forehead. (snolan - 10/24/2008 3:02:59 PM)
There is a big difference between the antics of a brother, and the antics of your chosen campaign surrogate...

John McCain needs to address this right away, probably by dismissing his brother from the campaign.... or he'll look dishonorable...  oh, wait...   too late.

On WTOP this evening (Pain - 10/24/2008 5:30:59 PM)

I heard him apologize profusely for being such a ninny [my words, not his] and he said he was going to immediately stop all work on the McCain campaign.

Interesting that the coverage is from ABC (snolan - 10/24/2008 9:04:51 AM)
I thought they were partially beholden to the Republican party if not simply aligned with it for business reasons...

If they are pushing this story, the defections from fellow conservatives from the McCain ticket is astonishing.

Local affiliate, not the national network . . . (JPTERP - 10/24/2008 6:15:09 PM)
my sense is that the local affiliate reflects the attitudes of the local community more than the parent company does.

Well I've seen the story on CNN Headline (Used2Bneutral - 10/24/2008 8:15:59 PM)
and now Countdown on MSNBC as well.....
