Another Endorsment for Webb

One of the last blogger holdouts in our series covering endorsements for Secretary Webb has come out for James Webb for the U.S. Senate! South Arlington VA today announced:

Ok, I've held out long enough. I'm for Webb. I've held out this long out of a desire to give Harris Miller a fair shake. But really, is there anything he could possibly say to convince me he can beat Allen? Not that I can think of.

That leaves the following Virginia Progressive Blogs for Webb:
Ben KyberBrian PattonCommonwealth Iconoclast, Howling LatinaNeal 2028NoVADemocrat, Raising Kaine, Realist Dem, SLANTblog, South Arlington VA, The Richmond Democrat, and Virginia Centrist.

and the blogs for Harris Miller:
GOTV.

The blogs that are still "officially undecided" are (maybe a little pressure should be applied :-)).
Not Larry Sabato, J. Sarge, and  Waldo.

Though from the "undecided" column, J. Sarge said:

?I?ll admit to leaning toward Webb at this point in the primary season, but Harris Miller could woo me away with some impressive performances.?

and Waldo Said:

I?m mightily impressed with James Webb, and suspect that he could run a much stronger campaign against George Allen than Harris Miller

James Webb's New Website is: http://www.webbforsenate.com/

I'm pretty sure I've read a bunch of J. Sarge posts endorsing Webb.  But, you never know.  I don't think Ben will endorse anybody, but we can definitely get him to say who he's thinks would have a better shot.  And Waldo...well, I think we just have to ask the guy.

As I've said before, (Adam Sharp - 4/4/2006 11:32:33 PM)
As I've said before, I'm endorsing Miller but I'm keeping the blog neutral.

The blogosphere is its own beast, but it is not the party (trust me, I've had to explain what a blog is to many, many party leaders).

I liked what J.C. Wilmore said: "The primary campaign will be an interesting contest pitting the party-savvy young professionals against the older tech-savvy grass-roots activists. Both will emerge smarter and better for the experience, and the primary winner will inherit many skilled workers from his competitor."

I have seen nothing so far that challenges that perception.

I just did the math, (DanG - 4/4/2006 11:32:33 PM)
I just did the math, and if the Blogs mentioned above decided the primary, it would be like this as of today:

James Webb: 79%
Harris Miller: 7%
Undecided: 14%

Even if Miller gets the other two blogs, it's 79% to Webb and 21% to Miller.  Still pretty one sided.  Again, nothing against Miller, I'm sure he's a great guy.  I'm just saying that the opinion of Blogosphere is pretty much certain to be overwhelmingly for James Webb.

Not being part of yo (F. T. Rea - 4/4/2006 11:32:33 PM)
Not being part of your club, this may not qualify as an “endorsement.” But for what it’s worth, at SLANTblog I’m delighted James Webb is in the race, I think he’s about to become a Democratic superstar. And, I believe Sen. George Allen is a lightweight, who is much more beatable than his smug supporters might think.

Is J Sarge for Webb (Ben - 4/4/2006 11:32:33 PM)
Is J Sarge for Webb or undecided?

Adam Sharp, I think (DanG - 4/4/2006 11:32:34 PM)
Adam Sharp,
I think the Blogs will have an effect on this campaign.  After all, they are one of the important factors in Webb's decision to run.  These blogs could be useful in motivating spirited activists into working, and swaying decisions.  Not that they will decide anything officially, but they will have a noticeable impact when it comes to motivating the base.

As for explaining a blog to party leaders...well, they don't decide elections, do they?  When you talk about the party, you immediately refer to party leaders.  When I talk about the party, I always refer to the voters.  That's just me, I could be wrong.

Ok, well you live in richmond so you count, slantblog.blogspot.com goes under webb endorsment, and new dominion goes undecided.

Haha.  I'm sure you didn't mean to call him a toady...

toad·y  ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (td)
n. pl. toad·ies
A person who flatters or defers to others for self-serving reasons; a sycophant.

Webb looks super impressive.  Once I pay off the new storm windows I'm contributing to him.

Here's Markos on James Webb: "Webb is exactly what Daily Kos ordered for the Virginia Senate race this year. He's my kind of candidate, and I know many people who would agree."

That's in reference to this, in the conservative National Review Online. Key quote: "Republicans should worry. Webb is an impressive man."

RK,

thanks for the props.  being one of the new guys in the blog-o-sphere i really appreciate it.  and i think that the goal of publishing our progressive bretheren really builds our bench, strengthens our voice, and the variety really adds to your already stellar site.

now to get some props for Eric Fergueson and I for attending the JJ dinner.  all this talk about building the party and no "public nods" to those that knocked a lot of doors and raised a ton of money -- but lost.

I concurr 100%.  In 5 years, we'll be referring to successful democrats as Webb Progressives and Warner Democrats.

btw, Mr. Rea, SLANTblog is one of my daily mustreads.  Makes me want to move to Richmond.  Know any Delegates in need of a good LA?

This euphoria in our (Teddy - 4/4/2006 11:32:35 PM)
This euphoria in our Progressive redoubt is right on, but... unless we keep the Diebold-type voting machines out of the voting booth, there will still be no assurance that the Democratic wave of voters will make a darned bit of difference.  Everything you say unconsciously assumes that we have an honest electoral voting count.

Unfortunately, I am not so sure, especially in swing states like Florida and Ohio. The more that leaks out about recent national elections in both these states, the more suspicious it sounds. Don't assume that the certified higher percentage of Bush votes was honest--- if you're going to steal, steal big enough to make it look as though no one could doubt the result. Nothing picayune about Karl Rove.

This Webb phenomenon (Josh - 4/4/2006 11:32:35 PM)
This Webb phenomenon is amazing.  We've been here ringside through the draft and now at the beginning of the campaign, it seems like we're at the beginning of something truly transformational, not just for Virginia and the Democratic party, but for the nation.

For Commonwealth and Country, James Webb.
