Obama in Richmond: There are no "real" parts and "fake" parts of this country

Barack Obama addresses a crowd of 20,000 people (12,900 inside and 7,000 outside) in Richmond earlier today.  This is powerful, positive stuff, and such a contrast with the McCain-Palin "Tour de Hate '08" it's mindboggling.

There are no 'real' parts of the country and 'fake' parts of the country. There are no 'pro-America' parts of the country and 'anti-America' parts of the country.  We all love this country, no matter where we live, or where we come from - black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native America, young, old, rich, poor, gay, straight, city dwellers, farm dwellers, it doesn't matter, we're all together.

...The men and women from Virginia and all across this country who served on our battlefields, some are Democrats, some are Republicans, some are Independents. But they fought together and bled together.  Some died together under the same proud flag. They have not served a red America, they haven't served a blue America, they served the United States of America. Nobody should forget that.

Next stop: Leesburg!

Damn, he's good (Ron1 - 10/22/2008 3:59:24 PM)
The man has once in a generation oratory skill. I get goosebumps and/or tears nearly every time I hear him speak. It should be old hat by now -- it's not.

I don't every time I hear him, but... (Lowell - 10/22/2008 4:02:19 PM)
...I sure did this time. Wow. Just...wow.

A change that is refreshing.

I was there today and it was great! (mishanti - 10/22/2008 4:32:21 PM)
There were so many people there and all were happy and having a good time. The only not so fun part was when I was brought up to the front of the line when they wanted those with wheelchairs and walkers in front.( I use a rolling walker to get about).  I was shocked at the number of women who were angry and yelling about that. There were many in this line who didn't even have a cane or walker and were yelling about  those of us getting in a few minutes earlier.. At this point I had already been standing in a line on one street for an hour and then was directed to this line.  I am sorry if it made people mad that the handicapped individuals were asked to come in first so we could be placed in a specific section. I certainly couldn't climb stairs.  But,for the rest of the time the day was great. The women I was sitting near were friendly and we had a great couple of hours waiting for the next President of the USA.

7000 outside? (legacyofmarshall - 10/22/2008 9:53:20 PM)
Can anyone explain how that works?  The Coliseum is pretty enclosed...

Loudspeakers (norman swingvoter - 10/23/2008 11:37:30 AM)
According to the Richmond Times Dispatch, the campaign put up speakers so those outside could hear the speech.

OBAMA (carol17 - 10/22/2008 10:34:20 PM)
WHAT A CONTRAST.  HE SPEAKS TO  EVERYONE. DRAWING US TOGETHER NOT ONE AGAINST ANOTHER. HE SPEAKS ABOUT TOMORROW, AND THE HOPE THAT THIS COUNTRY CAN RISE AGAIN TO BE A LEADER IN THE ECONOMY, IN REBUILDING OUR SENSE OF PRIDE IN OUR COUNTRY AND IN OURSELVES. WE HAVE TAKEN A LOT OF FLACK OVER THE YEARS BEEN REVILED AND HATED FOR WHAT?? WE HAVE SEEN COUNTRIES DIVIDED AND TORN BY WAR ( KOREA,VIETNAM,IRAQ) DO WE WANT TO BE NEXT??
