Webb Stumps Georgia vs. Saxby Chambliss

Jim Webb is working hard this election season.  He's been all over the commonwealth stumping for Barack Obama.  Now, he's working to extend the Democratic Majority in the Senate by stumping for insurgent challenger and fellow Vietnam veteran Jim Martin against the nefarious Saxby Chambliss.

We'd all love to see Saxby Chambliss out of the Senate:

For six years, Democrats here and in Washington have carried a grudge against Saxby Chambliss, the Republican incumbent, who beat Max Cleland in 2002 - in part with a TV ad that questioned the commitment of Cleland, a triple amputee and Vietnam vet, to national security. Chambliss, who is roughly the same age, received a deferment from military service.

[...]

"[Martin] will not have to go to committee meetings to know what it's like to serve in the military,"
Webb said.

It's great to see our hometown hero using his new found heft for the good of the caucus.
Democrats are closing in on a 60-seat, filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.  Current polling points to a 1-in-3 chance.  Should Obama take the White House, a majority well north of 50 would make a governing majority. So, every additional seat counts and the dynamics of the Chambliss/Martin race have tightened from a blowout to a toss-up.

The pollster average of polls currently shows 45.6% Chambliss, 45.0% Martin.  Could Webb's help make the difference?   If so, Webb could win himself a new friend in the Senate from Georgia.

With a REBEL Yell .... (ub40fan - 10/22/2008 5:00:29 AM)
I say more, more, more .....

Hypocrites like Chambliss need to be confronted... called out. Jim Webb is EXACTLY the guy to do it and I hope he stays on the circuit for the next 12 days. I hope Obama goes to the southern heart land just to fire up those troops in reserve who could make all the difference for these Democratic candidates on the cusp.

Think Tennessee as well ... Mitch McConnell ... toast.

Kentucky (DanG - 10/22/2008 12:53:24 PM)
McConnell is in Kentucky.

Of course .... (ub40fan - 10/22/2008 1:45:44 PM)
Kentucky ... Tennessee ... real Virginia ... they're all the same to me.

Good for Webb! (jlmccreery - 10/22/2008 9:36:09 AM)
Saxby Chambliss is slime, and if Jim Webb can help wipe it away, I for one will be applauding.

Fantastic (Dave N. - 10/22/2008 11:43:41 AM)
This would be so sweet if Georgia (with Webb's help) could reverse the injustice that was played on Max Cleland 6 years ago.

You go, Jim Webb; you're the man!!

He's just the guy to exact a little vengeance on behalf (Catzmaw - 10/22/2008 11:45:18 AM)
of Max Cleland and to get this creep out of the U.S. Senate. No way they can question Jim Webb's service.  What Chambliss did to Cleland was one of the lowest blows in the history of American politics and he needs to be smacked down for it.  Go Jim Webb!

Yeah, what she said! (AnonymousIsAWoman - 10/22/2008 3:51:04 PM)
Catzmaw, if I could rate you 40 more excellents I would.  Well said!
