Kilgore Goes to Potts?

(From the Winchester Star, August 28, 2003.)

As we've noted before:

Jerry Kilgore may not like Russ Potts now, calling him someone "who shares [Tim Kaine's] liberal views" and who is a candidate for "the liberal high-tax lobby."  But, just two years ago, Kilgore was singing a wildly different tune about Potts.  According to the ever-helpful Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP), "Virginians for Jerry Kilgore" gave $5,000 in cash to Russ Potts during the 2003 election cycle.  In other words, it seems that Jerry Kilgore liked Russ Potts just fine less than two years ago.

So what happened, exactly, to Kilgore's support for Potts?  Did Potts change THAT much in less than two years, from someone Kilgore felt like giving large sums of money to in 2003, to someone who suddenly, overnight, mutated into an ultra-liberal?  Or could it be that Jerry Kilgore himself has flip-flopped in the past two years, from a strong supporter (to the tune of $5,000) of Russ "High Tax/Big Government Spending" Potts, to someone who will simply say anything to get elected?

We wonder:  if Russ Potts was good enough for Jerry Kilgore back in the fall of  2003, what's wrong with him now?
