Good evening, RK!  Here's the link - http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs... - to a very interesting and timely Newsweek article suggesting that General Colin Powell may endorse Barack Obama on "Meet the Press" this coming Sunday morning, October 19.

This is my favorite quotation from the article:

"However, if Powell does endorse, it will have less to do with American sociology than world affairs. Powell simply has no use anymore--if he ever had any--for the neo-con cowboys he thinks misled the country (and him) into a mistaken and costly war in Iraq."

I've been hoping for/predicting this possibility for months, so please stay tuned...

Thanks!

Steve

Who knows. But if he does... (Lowell - 10/18/2008 8:21:19 AM)
...check out this poll from August 25, 2008:

Powell, the best-known African-American in the Republican Party, beats McCain more than two-to-one, 54% to 26%, with 21% of voters undecided.

An identical number of Democrats (75%) prefer either Obama or Powell over McCain.

But while 84% of GOP voters favor McCain against Obama, just 48% favor him over Powell, who pulls 35% of GOP voters in a contest with his fellow Republican.

Unaffiliated voters give the edge to McCain over Obama 41% to 35%. But Powell beats McCain among unaffiliateds 44% to 21%.

Excellent source and very useful information, Lowell... (cycle12 - 10/18/2008 9:46:27 AM)
...and a very intriguing proposition as well.

Had McCain been able to convince Powell to be his vice-presidential running mate, I think we may be seeing very different state and national poll numbers here now with less than three weeks to go before Election Day.

Let's continue to HOPE that yet another such big defection from the Bush/McCain/Palin Republicans to the Obama/Biden Democrats will further guarantee CHANGE and solidify our many expected victories on November 4.

Is it January 20, 2009 yet?

Thanks!

Steve
