The Party of Webb, Warner, and Wes

We received the following comment on the Draft James Webb site from a Republican in Texas:

Jim, you are one of my genuine heroes. Would love to support you -- but I cannot bring myself to have anything to do with the party of Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton.

My reaction?  Why not make the Democratic Party the party of James Webb, Mark Warner, and Wes Clark?  Why not take the Democratic Party back to its roots in leaders like FDR, Harry Truman, JFK and RFK?  Why not incorporate the "Bull Moose" Progressivism of Teddy Roosevelt and the Reform-ism of Ross Perot into the Party as well, while we're at it?  In other words, my message to moderate Republicans, Independents, and "Reagan Democrats" is this: why not make the Democratic Party the Party of American Greatness and the party that fights for the "common man" again, with people like James Webb leading the charge, instead of complaining about how "far left/liberal" it is?

Just a thought.
