Thank you, thank you, thank you Jim Webb, for saying what needs to be said.  Also, thank you for saying what most journalists and politicians are too wimpy to say. Fortunately for all of us, you were BORN FIGHTING! :)

"I don't know of a vice presidential nominee in my lifetime who is less qualified to be President of the United States than Governor Palin," Webb said. "That's not simply a comment on her background. It's a comment on the thought process that went into her selection. I have a hard time convincing myself that McCain was putting his country first."

[...]

"It's not just a question of that person's capabilities and confidence," Webb said. "It's also a question of judgment. It's a question that defines the individual who makes the decision. It gives you a window into how that individual is going to govern."

Did I mention that Jim Webb rocks?!?

The VP Bar Has Never Been High (dsvabeachdems - 10/17/2008 6:18:58 AM)
In his lifetime, two have been removed from a ticket and one was eventually forced from office after becoming President. This is a scathing remark by Senator Webb; an indictment that is well deserved.

The most important part of his comment (Catzmaw - 10/17/2008 8:19:24 AM)
was that the decision "gives you a window into how that individual is going to govern."  If McCain is elected his appointments to important positions will all be characterized by the same "shoot from the hip" picks instead of careful consideration of all potential candidates and what they can bring to their positions.  We can expect more military leaders canned for "defeatism" with McCain.  Shinseki ought to form a club.

I've often said... (ub40fan - 10/17/2008 10:37:36 AM)
that the single most important decision a Presidential candidate makes is his or hers selection for Vice President, the running mate. I always hoped for Jim Webb to be Barrack's VP, but Webb chose not to be considered. I'm sure he had good reasons not the least of which were personal / family considerations.

So we got Joe Bidden and I'm fine with that. I think it's a good fit.

As far as Hillary is concerned, I think she's in position to be a giant in the Senate .... and perhaps the next Presidential nominee from the Democratic Party. She was MOST Graceful in her concession and help to the Obama campaign. This will not be forgotten.

So here we have John McCain's pick. YIKES. Most high school civics teachers are far more "qualified" to be a VP.  Sarah Palin is a Ditto-heads dream ... kinda like a FemmBot cheerleader who knows how to read a tele-prompter and shows well winks and all. But has the lady ever had an original thought?

John McCain who flirted with joining the Democratic Party after being Bush-whacked in South Carolina has left his centrist leanings in the crapper and is now the poster boy for the ANGRY RIGHT. How sad for this man.

When you look at the tape of the Catholic Charities fund raiser of last night ... you see the guy who was once the most popular politician in America .... 8 years ago. Unfortunately John McCain made a pact with the Devil ... that Devil being Rove's Christo-facist right-wing. It was McCain's undoing in South Carolina ... it's his undoing now.

Sarah Palin is a "bye" product of a really bad political deal / decision. Bad for the country .... let's say good bye to the Palin - McCain ticket.

Yeah .... Jim Webb Rocks!!!

Sitting in the audicence in Roanoke, I was thinking (KathyinBlacksburg - 10/17/2008 5:31:12 PM)
how really lucky we are to have the best Senator in the US (besides Barack Obama, of course).  But Jim Webb in his freshman term has left such a mark and has represented us so well.  I am just so proud of his efforts, the improvements he's made, the integrity he displays.  I am proud that RK nto only endorsed him, but also encouraged him to run.

Drafting Webb and working for his campaign (Lowell - 10/17/2008 5:38:50 PM)
were definitely the best things I've ever done in politics, and probably ever will do (although working hard for Barack Obama certainly ranks up there!).  It was great being part of a 10,000-strong "ragtag army" for Webb, and a million-strong (or more) "army" for Obama.  Events like today's in Roanoke help keep the "army" fired up and ready to go! :)
