"Joe the plumber is Sarah Palin's brother-in-law."

See The Politico for more on this, including some interesting comments like "Joe the plumber is Sarah Palin's brother-in-law." Ha!

Also, The Politico's Ben Smith reports that Joe the plumber apparently is not registered to vote. {UPDATE: Even better, he's apparently a registered Republican. Hahahahaha.}  What a joke.  By the way, can someone remind me why this guy got even 2 seconds of time on national TV?  Oh yeah, this is television, aka "the boob tube," "the idiot box," "infotainment," etc. Alright, the U.S. presidential election meets "American Idol!" Duhhhhhhhhhh.

By the way, did Katie Couric actually laugh at Joe's ever-so-charming Sammy Davis, Jr./"tap dancing" comment? Yeah, insidious racism and stereotyping is truly hilarious! Hahahahahahahahahahaha. So funny, must stop laughing now! Seriously, though, there goes 90% of the respect that I had gained for Katie Couric because of her generally excellent interviews of Sarah Barracuda. Lame, lame, lame.

P.S. I was just thinking that Joe the Plumber and Jeff Frederick would probably hit it off famously. The two of them should go out to a bar and down a few brewskies. Yeah, that would be a veritable laff riot!

UPDATE: Tom Shales of the Washington Post notes that this whole "Joe the plumber" thing demonstrates how "the electronic media are ever on the lookout for ways to trivialize the democratic process."

UPDATE #2: Check out this classic comment at The Politico.

So let's see. Joe the Plumber is not registered to vote. Joe the Plumber admits he makes much less than $250k (on CBS) so will in fact pay less taxes under Obama than under McCain. Joe keeps railing on Obama. Joe the Plumber's dad is a big Republican donor. Can this story get any more ridiculous?

Answer to that last question? I doubt it, but the tee-vee talking head idiots most certainly will try!

UPDATE #3: Check this out:

Turns out that Joe Wurzelbacher from the Toledo event is a close relative of Robert Wurzelbacher of Milford, Ohio. Who's Robert Wurzelbacher? Only Charles Keating's son-in-law and the former senior vice president of American Continental, the parent company of the infamous Lincoln Savings and Loan. The now retired elder Wurzelbacher is also a major contributor to Republican causes giving well over $10,000 in the last few years.

UPDATE #4: And he doesn't pay his taxes either. What a guy!

Did Katie actually say "Thats for darn sure"? (Pain - 10/16/2008 6:51:37 AM)

You Betcha!

To be fair... (snolan - 10/16/2008 6:55:21 AM)
Sammy Davis Jr is an incredible dancer, so holding him up as an ideal dancer is credible as a benchmark that'd be hard to reach.

Totally agree with you that this guy has had more than his fair share of fame.  He's not registered to vote?  Uh, Ohio's deadline was weeks ago...  Joe's lost his right to complain by not even registering.

Guess it could be in process?

This guy is the best thing that happened to McCain (thegools - 10/16/2008 8:37:07 AM)
He is clearly a McCain supporter from all he says.  Yet, he is being portrayed as the everymen.  That sort of thing could be dangerous, because now this dude, who we know very little about, has been given a bull-horn and thus some power.  He can claim to be on the fence while tearing into Obama.  Damage can be done.

If this guy stays in the news, his past political leanings, the facts about his income, and his history need to be investigated.  If as I predict he is a GOP guy dressed up as an "independent", it must be broadcast.

If it is true that this guy is not registered to vote and that his father is a big GOP donator, that too should be addressed.

But, if he dissappears an hour from now, all the better.  One dude cannot speak for a nation, and yet the press seems to act as though he does.

And Plumber Joe .. (Calvin Jones and the 13th Apostle - 10/16/2008 1:22:41 PM)
is a tax cheat as well

Not a problem. (Great Blue - 10/16/2008 9:00:47 AM)
Just video/interview all the people with leaking pipes who are waiting for Joe to show up at their house as promised last week.

"Oh, THAT'S where he's been."

Joe seems to be the son of Charles Keating's brother in law (Andrea Chamblee - 10/16/2008 10:25:11 AM)
Not Sarah Palin's brother in law.  Even better!

Mr. Keating's son-in-law is Robert Wurzelbacher, a senior vice president of American Continental, Lincoln savings and Loan's parent company, the American Continental Corporation.

Gee, maybe Joe the Plumber (Catzmaw - 10/16/2008 1:25:33 PM)
should stop whining about how Obama's going to keep him from his long-held dream of plumbing empire and just borrow the money from his dad or bring in the old boy as a partner.

Let me suggest also that it's a little unusual to find a guy who grew up in a wealthy family with a banker dad struggling along as a plumber who harbors dreams of one day making it big.  The whole thing sounds like a crock.

Something familiar about Joe (KCinDC - 10/16/2008 1:49:40 PM)
I think Joe the Plumber is actually Rob Corddry with his remaining hair shaved off.

And there is this (KathyinBlacksburg - 10/16/2008 3:10:02 PM)

Check this out, from Andrew Sullivan (Pain - 10/16/2008 4:38:17 PM)

Joe the Plumber has now had more press conferences than Sarah Palin.
