What is with McCain's tongue thing? (VA Breeze - 10/16/2008 12:20:21 AM)
This clip really shows the angry lizard look

Here's another one (FMArouet21 - 10/16/2008 10:20:35 AM)
from the Telegraph this morning:

Lurching McIgor.

You should have seen it on the big screen! (KathyinBlacksburg - 10/16/2008 12:21:12 AM)
Very disturbing how angry John McCain is.  It was hard to watch.  The disrespect oozes from him.  The idea that "because you wouldn't do those town halls" is trotted out to justify the negativity is just amazing.  It is very clear that John McCain considers the presidency an entitlement.

Was McCain "on" something? (LoudounLad - 10/16/2008 9:32:56 AM)
I watched the debate in high-def on my big screen (thankfully, it's paid for) and was immediately struck by McCain's appearance. His eyes were red-rimmed and watery. Maybe it was the lighting of this particular debate, but I've never noticed that before. Then, as the debate wore on, the split-screen format exposed something else. Most times when McCain finished making his point and the question would go to Obama, there were a few seconds in which McCain looked very pleased with himself for getting that (well-rehearsed) sound bite out. Maybe this was just the new split-screen effect keeping the candidates on camera full-time, but to me, it showed a lack of self-control. That and the red, watery eyes just made me wonder.

You know, I noticed that, too... (Dave N. - 10/16/2008 10:00:18 AM)
"Most times when McCain finished making his point and the question would go to Obama, there were a few seconds in which McCain looked very pleased with himself for getting that (well-rehearsed) sound bite out."

Sort of like Frank Caliendo's Bush routine. Funny, but annoying as hell.

It was like watching Brian Kirwin (Peninsula Pete - 10/16/2008 6:05:22 AM)
Honestly, watching McCain was like watching self proclaimed "political consultant" republican Brian Kirwin explain why he lost the Marty Williams primary race when he had $500-thousand in cash, a 12-year incumbancy and the entire districts party machinery at his disposal and his opponent had zip for money and only a few lunatic right wing protestors as her grassroots organization!

McCain, like Kirwin, is clearly a disturbed individual, who is out of touch with reality!  But thinks they are entitled to whatever comes their way.

Lets hope both get out of politics after this election and get into Used Car sales where they both belong.

McCain is assuring that Virginia will be a BLUE state for at least the next two presidential elections!

John McCain's 26 lies last night (Lowell - 10/16/2008 6:36:36 AM)
Do these Democratic researchers never sleep? :)

1. MCCAIN AND SMALL BUSINESS TAXES: McCain said: "Joe, I want to tell you, I'll not only help you buy that business that you worked your whole life for and be able --and I will keep your taxes low, and I will provide available and affordable health care for you and your employees." The reality is that the overwhelming majority of small businesses would see no increase under Senator Obama's plan, McCain's tax plan does not provide any tax cuts directly targeted to small businesses, and McCain has repeatedly voted against providing tax credits for small businesses to help provide health care.

2. MCCAIN ECONOMIC PLAN: Tonight McCain claimed his economic plan would help people on Main Street. Experts have called his plan a giveaway to banks and the Wall Street Journal wrote McCain's plan, "appears to offer no upside for taxpayers."

3. SPREADING THE WEALTH: McCain repeatedly attacked Obama's statement regarding spreading the wealth.  McCain misrepresented Obama's full statement, which referred to improving the economy for everybody.

4. NUCLEAR POWER: Tonight, Senator McCain said: "We have to have nuclear power...  gas, nuclear, solar. Which Senator Obama has opposed." Actually, Obama supports clean and safe uses of nuclear power and other renewable energies.

5. MCCAIN'S MORTGAGE PLAN NOT CLINTON'S PLAN: McCain claimed his mortgage plan was the same as Hilary Clinton's. Senator Clinton has repeatedly repudiated this claim, pointing out many differences in the two plans, including protections for taxpayers.

6. ENERGY BILL: Tonight, John McCain said:  "He voted for the energy bill that was full of goodies for the energy companies that I opposed." The Congressional Research Service showed that that bill actually raised taxes on the oil and gas industry.

7. $42,000 TAX INCREASE: McCain again repeated the lie that Obama voted for a tax increase for people making $42,000 a year. Even Fox News has debunked this attack. The vote was for a nonbinding budget resolution. 95% of workers and their families would get a tax cut under Obama's plan.

8. OBAMA TAKING ON OWN PARTY: McCain said he needed to be told of any time Obama stood against the leaders of his party. Obama has stood up to his party numerous times and has policies that are against the Democratic party orthodoxy, including ethics reform, tort reform, FISA, faith-based initiatives and differential pay for teachers.

9. NEGATIVITY: McCain questioned the Obama campaign, calling it negative. In fact, McCain's ads are now 100% negative according to an academic study and several members of his own party have criticized McCain's negativity.

10. ACORN: McCain questioned Sen. Obama's relationship with ACORN, when McCain was a principal speaker at a meeting organized by ACORN and other immigration policy groups just a few years ago.  McCain, Bush, and the majority of Senate Republicans have supported measures that benefited ACORN.

11. AYERS AND OBAMA'S FIRST CAMPAIGN: McCain continues to mislead the public in the role Ayers played in Obama's political career. The Chicago Sun Times reported that the kickoff of Obama's first campaign was at the Hyde Park Ramada. The event at Ayers' house was for another politician.

12. AYERS: Tonight, John McCain said:  "Mr. Ayers... we need to know the full extent of that relationship." Numerous investigations have concluded that Obama and Ayers are not close and were never close. Obama has repeatedly deplored the violence of Ayers and the Weather Underground.

13. MCCAIN AND BUSH: Tonight, John McCain said: "It is very clear I have disagreed with the Bush administration." The truth is McCain has been a reliable supporter of Bush, voting with him 90 percent of the time.

14. PALIN NOT A REFORMER: Tonight, Senator McCain defended his pick of Palin, saying: "She is a reformer." In fact, the Troopergate report found Palin abused her power. There is a standing ethics complaint regarding the hiring of one of her campaign supporters. She supported the Bridge to Nowhere, and hired a lobbyist to secure millions in federal earmarks for her small town.

15. SPENDING: McCain attacked Obama on spending, saying Obama proposed $860 billion worth of new spending. Independent experts have repeatedly debunked McCain's claims on this issue, recognizing that Obama's plans are paid for and balanced and would do a better job than McCain's in cutting the deficit.

16. RENEWABLE ENERGY: McCain claimed to support renewable energies, but his record shows otherwise. He has voted 23 times against investing in renewable energies and opposed a bipartisan effort to remove tax breaks for oil companies in order to invest in renewable energy.

17. SMALL BUSINESS AND HEALTH CARE: Tonight, Senator McCain said: "Senator Obama's plan, if you are a small business ... if you don't get the health care plan that Senator Obama mandates, he is going to fine you." Obama's health care plan will make health care more affordable for small businesses. Small businesses will not be fined -  a fact which McCain's own website recognizes.

18. ROE V WADE: McCain tried to soften his position on Roe v. Wade, calling it one of many bad decisions. McCain's own website calls Roe v. Wade, "a flawed decision that must be overturned." McCain has assured social conservatives in private that he would appoint pro-life judges.

19. MCCAIN'S HEALTH CARE PLAN: McCain claimed his health care plan, "will give them affordability, this will give them availability, this will give them a chance to choose their own futures, not have Senator Obama and government decide that for them." 20 million Americans will lose their current health insurance under McCain.  His plan would cut Medicare and Medicaid by $1.3 trillion, could force hospital closures, and could force cuts to prescription drug benefits for seniors.

20. OBAMA'S HEALTH CARE PLAN: Tonight, Sen. McCain said of Obama's health care plan, "Senator Obama wants government to do the job." Obama's plan is not government-run and would keep the existing private system.

21. FAILED ABORTION LEGISLATION: Tonight, Senator McCain said: "Senator Obama ... as a member of the Illinois state Senate voted in the Judiciary Committee against a law that would provide immediate medical attention to a child born of a failed abortion." It was already law that a doctor must preserve the life of a fetus if there is a reasonable likelihood of survival. The Republican sponsor of the bill said Obama didn't support infanticide. Obama voted against the bill because it would have compromised abortion rights.

22. REPUDIATING ATTACKS: Tonight, John McCain said: "Anytime there has been an out of bounds remark made by a Republican, no matter where they are, I have repudiated them." McCain has said "he can't be a referee" on attacks, and did not repudiate one of his own surrogates who made extreme anti-Muslim comments.

23. STUDENT LOANS: Tonight, John McCain said: "As far as college education is concerned, we need to make the student loans available, we need to give them a repayment schedule that they can meet, we need to have full student loan program for in-state tuition, and we certainly need to adjust the student loan eligibility to inflation." McCain has no plan to help the middle class with college costs, his spending plan would freeze Pell grants, and he has repeatedly opposed efforts to make college more affordable.

24. BREYER: McCain claimed Obama voted against Justice Breyer. Obama was not in the Senate when Breyer was confirmed in 1994. Obama joined the Senate in 2005.

25. TRAINING PROGRAM FUNDING: Senator McCain said: "we need to have education and training programs for displaced workers going into our community colleges." In fact, McCain voted against a program establishing a grant program for community colleges to provide training programs for displaced workers.

26. LEDBETTER FAIR PAY ACT: Tonight, McCain said, "Obviously, that law waved the statute of limitations, which you could have gone back 20 or 30 years. It was a trial lawyer's dream." In fact, the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2007 would have clarified the law to allow victims of wage discrimination to sue up to 180 days from last instance of discrimination, not 20 or 30 years like McCain claimed.

This is incredibly helpful, thank you very much (snolan - 10/16/2008 7:46:12 AM)

How about McCain on Sarah Palin? (Lowell - 10/16/2008 8:21:06 AM)
Well, Americans have gotten to know Sarah Palin (see photo). They know that she's a role model to women and other -- and reformers all over America. She's a reformer. She is -- she took on a governor who was a member of her own party when she ran for governor. When she was the head of their energy and natural resources board, she saw corruption, she resigned and said, "This can't go on."

She's given money back to the taxpayers. She's cut the size of government. She negotiated with the oil companies and faced them down, a $40 billion pipeline of natural gas that's going to relieve the energy needs of the United -- of what they call the lower 48.

She's a reformer through and through. And it's time we had that bresh of freth air (sic) -- breath of fresh air coming into our nation's capital and sweep out the old-boy network and the cronyism that's been so much a part of it that I've fought against for all these years.

She'll be my partner. She understands reform. And, by the way, she also understands special-needs families. She understands that autism is on the rise, that we've got to find out what's causing it, and we've got to reach out to these families, and help them, and give them the help they need as they raise these very special needs children.

She understands that better than almost any American that I know. I'm proud of her.

And she has ignited our party and people all over America that have never been involved in the political process. And I can't tell you how proud I am of her and her family.

Her husband's a pretty tough guy, by the way, too.

Unfortunately for John McCain, the polls currently indicate that the American people disagree with you on Sarah Palin.  At least one poll has her net favorable rating in the negatives, as low as MINUS 20!  In contrast, Joe Biden is PLUS 29 in that same poll.

Also, what's up with the praise for Todd Palin, former member of the secessionist and America-hating Alaskan Independence Party, also a key figure in the "Troopergate" scandal involving the firing of Commissioner Walt Monegan. And how about Todd Palin's refusal to cooperate with the investigation into said scandal?  Yeah, he's a "pretty tough guy," that's for sure, but not in a way that would be admirable to anyone with a moral compass.
