McCain says he needs more "context" on Jeff Frederick's vicious smears and lies

John McCain apparently can't figure out that what Jeff Frederick said about Barack Obama is just dead wrong.  He needs more "context" (note: for some reason the questions at WSLS are in all caps - very annoying):

WARREN: "WE HAVE A COUPLE OF SECOND REMAINING, THE CHAIR OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IN VIRGINIA HAS SAID, QUOTE IN TIME MAGAZINE, "BOTH BARACK OBAMA AND OSAMA BIN LADEN HAVE FRIENDS THAT HAVE BOMBED THE PENTAGON. THAT IS SCARY." IS THAT APPROPRIATE FOR A STATE PARTY CHAIR TO BE SAYING?"

MCCAIN: "I have to look at the context of his remarks. I have always repudiated any comments that have been made that were inappropriate about Senator Obama. The fact is that William Ayers was a terrorist and bomber and unrepentant. I don't care about that. But, Sen. Obama ought be the candid and truthful about his relationship with Mr. Ayers in whose living room Sen. Obama launched his campaign and Sen. Obama said he was just a guy in the neighborhood."

Meanwhile, Jeff Frederick himself is not backing down an inch:

...Frederick is not sorry.

"It is just the hard facts. It's terrible that it can be said, but it can," Frederick said. "It's shocking. Here is a guy who is one step away from the presidency, who is one step away from being commander and chief, who has a friend who bombed the Pentagon. It's just shocking to me." He added, "And there is no denying that Osama bin Laden had a role in bombing the Pentagon."

Unbelievable - continued lies and smears of the worst kind.  All of this crap has been completely debunked by independent groups.  This is simply outrageous, the kind of rhetoric that has no place in this country.  When will Bill Bolling and Bob McDonnell step in and demand Jeff Frederick's resignation?  Are there any adults in the Republican Party of Virginia?

This is going to hit all of the major news networks tomorrow... Jeff Frederick might have handed Virginia to Barrack.

Any adults in the RPV? (Great Blue - 10/13/2008 1:58:24 AM)
No.

But it's good to know that even Jeff Frederick realizes that Barack Obama is just "one step away from the Presidency," one step away from being Commander in Chief.

In just 23 days, we will take that step, and then we can forget about Jeff Frederick.

Interview with John McCain (Obama Jones - 10/13/2008 7:48:57 AM)
The video interview with Joh McCain that appeared on WSLS in Roanoke last night was paid for by the McCain campaign according to the news anchor.

what a tool (jasonVA - 10/13/2008 9:00:27 AM)
Just when I thought Frederick couldn't be a bigger douche.

The Virginia Republican Party (Scott Surovell - 10/13/2008 9:01:31 AM)
Has done such a great job of alienating, excluding, and jettisoning moderates that they have become a party of extremist ideologues run by extremist ideologues.

Fredericks' comments just confirm that.  Every time he opens his mouth, they dig their hole a little deeper.

Hopefully, they won't figure that out any time soon.

What really gets me on this (Used2Bneutral - 10/13/2008 9:09:02 AM)
Is that Jeff has no doubt shook hands and so strongly endoresed Bush, Chaney, and Rove and easily considers them proudly as true and close friends. Also all of which may soon be convicted felons and war criminals, guilty of crimes as bad as any of the worst of the worst terrorists.

How can serving on a committee or board with an almost stranger with little more than polite contact be even slightly considered similar???? Obviously, they have nothing left except to "Swift Boat" with lies and distortions..... who ever said "all is fair in love, war, and politics", just didn't know a good lawyer for the first two.

The results of this approach? (Kindler - 10/13/2008 9:33:07 AM)
Obama 53%, McCain 43%.  McCain's favorability rating down, Obama's up.

This whole focus on Obama as a "terrorist" has done nothing but prove to the American people that the Republicans are not serious about governing America at a time of severe economic, international and environmental challenges.

So...keep up the good work, Jeff, John, and Sarah!  The longer you linger on this lame line of attack, the bigger our margin of victory grows.

It's going the same way of the VA Senate election of 2006 (McGuffin - 10/13/2008 4:42:40 PM)
In the last days of the Webb/Allen senate election when the Allen mob tried to do the:

"OMG... James Webb Writes dirty books" crap.

The people of Virginia saw the ploy and did not fall for it. It's the same now. The old Rovian trick of character assassination isn't working anymore. Americans are sick of this trash. They want true progresive change for the better.

Go Jeff (Waldo Jaquith - 10/13/2008 2:50:23 PM)
God bless Jeff Frederick! Isn't there some kind of an award we can give him?

How about A$$ of the month award.... for his service to the Democrats of Va. (Used2Bneutral - 10/13/2008 3:57:29 PM)
And since it is similar enough, the award that is given is bucket of horse manure since it most completely replicates what he is famous for.....

I have been seeing these quotes of his on ALL the national networks all day...... almost another Maccaca moment....

the bloodline..... (RJR - 10/14/2008 1:43:04 AM)
...and Karl Rove hath begotten Sean Hannity and Sean Hannity hath begotten Jeff Frederick...

does the level of intelligence ever go up???

Looks like devolution is (Lowell - 10/14/2008 5:24:32 AM)
accelerating towards full-fledged "Idiocracy" in the Republican Party these days.
