Todd Palin as Deputy President

The Alaska Legislative Council's release of its "Branchflower Report" provides fascinating insights into Sarah Palin's "abuse of power" in discharging -- for personal reasons -- Alaska's Police Commissioner.

Buried in the report is an interesting tidbit about how Todd Palin served informally as the key member of Gov. Palin's staff.

In his formal interview, Gary Wheeler, a State Trouper and member of Gov. Palin's security detail, describes how Todd Palin had "a significant influence" on the day-to-day affairs of the governor's office "always interacting with the employees there."

Todd was "the only person Wheeler could talk with when he need to get information to the Governor." He spent at least 50% of his time in Governor Palin's office. . .  "sitting at a conference table that had a phone on it."
Wheeler stated that while other Governor spouses were more involved with "functions" and "non-profit organizations," Todd Palin was significantly involved with "day-to-day things."

So when Todd Palin met with various officials trying to get his ex-brother-in-law fired, he was acting with the implicit authority of the governor.

More significantly, were Sarah ever to become President, Todd would be more than just "First Gentleman." He would be her deputy. . . .

And what do we know about this guy? (Rebecca - 10/12/2008 10:25:07 PM)
For one he was involved in the anti-American Alaska Independence Party.

Another thing we know (The Donkey - 10/12/2008 10:37:20 PM)
is that he is prepared to bend the rules, and pressure others to bend them, to get his way.

What about his vaunted UNION Membership? (oldsoldier - 10/14/2008 12:01:26 PM)
No media interest at all in Todd's background aggoravates (not a misspelling)the c**p out of me! Proud Union Dude? Why? Does he pay dues and what has he done besides belonging?

Has anyone talked to his shop stewards or other union officials?  Am I a really unqualified investigator now that my coercive government credentials have expired with my retirement?

Is anyone else interested, or am I simply peeing into the wind and getting my pants wet?

This is EXACTLY what I have been talking about all along. (Tiderion - 10/13/2008 10:40:58 PM)
I have no problem with spouses helping with crucial advise and even going out and acting as an intermediary. Eleanor Roosevelt was an amazing lady (she even "ran the country" for a bit but she was at least a good person). Hillary's office was much closer to the Oval Office. Abigail Adams had quite a bit to say on a lot of points.

However, I do not go to my fiance's job and do it for her. I know her coworkers and I help out if I stop in and they need an extra pair of hands. When you step in to actually make policy I find a problem in that. Mrs. Roosevelt was one hell of a lady. Mr. Palin is a separatist. I call him Count Dooku. (Go ahead and call me a nerd.)

If Todd held an official position and an official title, that would be one thing.  Otherwise, it would be like me (a non-attorney never taken the bar) taking over my husband's (a bar certified attorney) legal cases.  Similarly, if my husband came to my company and did my job for me and did it wrong, that could result in severe consequences.

I don't know if this is a legitimate point but (Tiderion - 10/14/2008 11:33:54 AM)
it might hurt her credibility if her husband does half of her work for her. I tease the very conservative view of women that they do not belong in politics or should have certain jobs when I say that I worry that I don't see Palin much except when her husband is around. Now, we know that she is very conservative and we know she has blind ambition. I am sure he is ambitious as well but he is undoubtedly unelectable, especially being a separatist. So if all of this follows then she wants to be elected to the highest position she can get and he wants the power behind, like Cheney to Bush. What does that say for women everywhere? That's like putting 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling and then putting a steel sheet over top of it.

AIP = secessionists (hereinva - 10/14/2008 7:10:00 PM)
Not to be confused with Independent Party. Plenty of stuff currently on the Alaskan Independent Party web site (including Gov S.P.'s address here)  AND the wayback machine can offer up some of the archived materials w/some workable links.

General link to Archive is http://www.archive.org/index.php

here

The November 10, 2006 website included a quote from Jefferson Davis on the top page  "The principle for which we contend is bound to reassert itself, though it may be at another time and in another form"~ President Jefferson Davis, C.S.A." It was replaced by a quote from the U.S. Constitution
in 2007.

AIP held their state convention in Wasilla in 2006 (the Chair, Chryson, was from Wasilla)...so not surprized by the connections...small towns, politicians etc.
