In short, as Greg Sargent of TPM points out, it appears that "General Petraeus agrees with Barack Obama -- and not John McCain -- on the question of whether we should meet with hostile enemies." Sorry, Senator McCain, you lose once again!

There have been reports in the last few days that Gen. Petraeus (incoming USCENTCOM Commander in late Oct.) and/or Gen. McKiernan (the U.S. and NATO ISAF Commander in Kabul, as of the chain of command changes initiatied Oct. 6th) (not McClelland, Sarah) are considering having someone meet directly with the Taliban.  Not surprising since COIN is a political struggle that cannot be won with military force alone.

is such a great word! :-) Thank you, General. Do you suppose if Obama beats McCain by using this word it will show how hep Barack is with modern Commander in Chief stuff, and one-up McCain?
