PPP Poll: Obama 51%-McCain 43% in Virginia; Mark Warner Romps

More good polling news from Virginia:

For the first time in any of PPP's Virginia polling this year the race is something other than a two point lead for Barack Obama. He now leads 51-43 in the state.

[...]

Since the last survey Joe Biden's stock in the state has risen while Sarah Palin's has fallen. Biden's gone from a +11 net favorability to +17 in the week following the Vice Presidential debate, while Palin has dropped from a +2 to a -9.

I love the fact that Sarah Palin is a net unfavorable AND a negative in Virginia (37% say she makes them more likely to vote for McCain vs. 46% who say "less likely").

More good news, this time on the Senate race front:

The race for the state's open Senate seat continues to be a romp for Mark Warner. He
leads fellow former Governor Jim Gilmore 58-31 while winning independents at a remarkable 66-20 clip.
He's also capturing 26% of the Republican vote, making it nearly impossible for Gilmore to even bring the race within 20 points.

Not surprisingly, 63% of Virginians say that the economy is the most important issue right now, followed far behind by the war in Iraq (14%) and "moral and family values" (8%).  The supposed hot-button issue of immigration clocks in at only 2%, below taxes (5%), education (3%) and health care (3%). So much for immigration being a huge issue in the 2008 presidential election...

Who ever thought (Scott Surovell - 10/9/2008 1:57:50 PM)
We'd ever see a post about a Democratic presidential candidate with an 11 point lead in Virginia and no comments after 3 hours........

This is the new normal (Ron1 - 10/9/2008 2:00:50 PM)
and I like it.

Eveyrone is busy (Pain - 10/9/2008 2:08:03 PM)

Everyone is busy working to make it 15 points.

I hope youse guys noticed the CNN "Tote" board "Election Tracker" (Used2Bneutral - 10/9/2008 2:34:30 PM)
They turned Virginia dark Blue, also Nevada and NH.

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/20...

As has been said before, all the more reason to keep on plugging..... so now the number to guess must be, how many more days until McSame pulls their resources out of Virginia to try to save Indianna or North Carolina???

I Know, I know, they can't without conceding the election.... but limited money buys limited TV.....

So why is Mark making such an effort to appeal to Republicans that he's made few joint (martin lomasney - 10/9/2008 2:29:00 PM)
appearances with Barack?

This is as infuriating as his convention speech.

Is he the leader of the Va. Democratic Party or a free agent looking out only for himself?

BTW Has Wilder endorsed Barack? (martin lomasney - 10/9/2008 2:30:02 PM)
Maybe I missed it.

Yes, he has. (DanG - 10/9/2008 3:38:01 PM)
He endorsed, actually, right after Iowa.

The Jello Has Set - 94% are Firmly Committed - GOTV (Josh - 10/9/2008 2:50:36 PM)
from the PPP poll:

Are you firmly committed to your choice for
President
, or could you change your mind
between now and the election? If you are firmly
committed, press 1. If you could change your
mind, press 2.
Firmly Committed........................ 94%
Could Change Mind ........................ 6%

Only 6% of Virginia voters are currently persuadable.

Persuasion is over, in Virginia the name of the game is GOTV.

West VA is tettering on the edge (Pain - 10/9/2008 3:32:54 PM)

ARG has a new poll showing WVA for Obama.

Noticed that (DanG - 10/9/2008 3:39:11 PM)
I would be shocked beyond all belief.  But if we see more polls like this, it might be time for Obama to put some money into the state.  Advertising in WV can't be that expensive.

I think it's time to finish this thing (Pain - 10/9/2008 3:43:21 PM)

http://www.dailykos.com/story/...

I agree with KOS.  Leave it all on the road.

I just gave more money to the DNC and to Obama.  Lets demoralize the GOP.

Yeah, but you have buy advertizing on Satellite TV (Used2Bneutral - 10/9/2008 4:00:26 PM)
The satellite dish is the state flower.....
