"And I'm going to act responsibly, as I have acted responsibly throughout my military career and throughout my career in the United States Senate."  John McCain, October 7, 2008 during Presidential debate in Nashville Tennessee

McCain's personal history, especially his Navy career, is filled with well-known evidence that clearly disputes the above....

He has often admitted that he was immature, petulant, a poor student, a skirt-chaser, fond of parties and booze, and an embarrassment to his family and friends.  Just this week several publications have highlighted his hell-raising as a young midshipman and officer.  He was proud of his accumulated reputation for mayhem and debauchery.

Yeah, right... (Dave N. - 10/9/2008 10:01:18 AM)
From the Rollins Stone article "Make Believe Maverick":

"'I enjoyed the off-duty life of a Navy flier more than I enjoyed the actual flying,' McCain writes. 'I drove a Corvette, dated a lot, spent all my free hours at bars and beach parties.'"

And...

"Flying over the south of Spain one day, he decided to deviate from his flight plan. Rocketing along mere feet above the ground, his plane sliced through a power line. His self-described 'daredevil clowning' plunged much of the area into a blackout."

Acting responsibly in his military career? Hardly.
