Hundreds (Thousands?) of McCain and Gilmore Signs Literally Have Racist's Name on Them

Remember Bobby Lee May, the FORMER chairman of McCain's Virginia campaign in Buchanan County? I say "FORMER" because this is what Bobby Lee May wrote the other day. As NLS describes it:

You need to read this column to believe it. In "humor" he accuses Obama of wanting to paint the White House black, supporting reparations, changing the national anthem to the "black national anthem", teaching "black liberation theology in all churches", and replacing the flag with a "star and crescent logo".

For once, the McCain campaign actually did something about this type of behavior (meanwhile, of course, they allow Sarah Palin to continue her Hate and Incitement to Violence Tour 2008):

"Bobby Lee May's comments about Barack Obama are offensive, insulting and have no place in political discourse. Mr. May's comments in no way, shape or form reflect the views or opinions held by John McCain or his campaign. The McCain campaign wholeheartedly disavows Mr. May's column. Mr. May is no longer a part of our campaign organization." - Gail Gitcho, McCain mid-Atlantic spokesman

After being publicly repudiated by the McCain campaign, Bobby Lee May stepped announced, "I have resigned my position as McCain Campaign Buchanan County Chair." Hence, "FORMER" chairman. The problem is, Bobby Lee May's legacy lives on, as his name is LITERALLY on hundreds if not THOUSANDS of McCain-Palin and Gilmore signs throughout Southwestern Virginia. See the photos on this page and after the "flip."  Note that the signs carry Bobby Lee May's name in the legal disclaimer.

So...given that the McCain campaign has publicly rebuked its long-standing affiliation with this racist, why haven't they ordered the signs with Mr. May's name on them - and currently being displayed in public, at a feed store in Pulaski County, and/or ready for distribution at the Pulaski County Republican HQ - removed or recalled? To me, that says a great deal about the McCain campaign, repudiate the guy publicly but continue doing business with him out of the media glare.

It's all pretty slick, except for the fact that we've got observant people in Southwest Virginia and they immediately noticed what was going on (and sent RK the photos). Apparently, the McCain campaign doesn't think people are smart or something, assumed they would never figure this out. Well, check it out, Senator McCain, they did!  Ha.

Remember that McCain appeared at an Allen rally (dsvabeachdems - 10/8/2008 7:04:10 AM)
in Norfolk just days following the Macaca event? At that point McCain's temerity was untempered and he would have rather not alienated the then GOP Presidential front-runnner than to show character by disavoving the man. And, it is much easier to throw some local yahoo under the bus. This is an act of desperation rather than a demonstration of principle.

McCain Campaign "open secret" (hereinva - 10/8/2008 9:17:33 AM)
For those who have been through a few VA election cycles, knew that the Mac's last gasps would all come down to hard and nasty..playing out themes of "terrorism", "fright", and "fear". In VA, Allen played his hand, (Allen believed his miniature noose were just "fun stuff" for the office),
and the voters of Virginia REJECTED Allen.

A Repub. friend gave me a DVD received in yesterday's mail titled "Obsession" fighting radical Islam. My friend "hunches" that it was targeted to Republicans because it was addressed to his formal name- and always receives Repub. mailers with formal name. So the recent "Obama pals around..etc" is probably synchronized with the Obsession mail drop..coincidence?

Mac, "Chick Cheney" (and their agent provocateurs) are walking on the slimey slope and heading for the swamp come election day. Keep working, calling, canvassing..and VOTE EARLY!!

I put it on Flickr  as well, so people can spread this far and wide!

Bobby May makes a lot of money off Republicans (Adam Sharp - 10/8/2008 11:35:27 AM)
Check out this list from VPAP, the gang's all here:

In the last 9 years, "Committees reported making payments totaling $874,634 to Bobby May Advertising Specialties for the following services:

   * Community Goodwill
   * Events/Catering
   * Mail/Printing/Postage
   * Misc. Campaigning
   * Office Supplies
   * Purpose Not Determined
   * Signs/Bumper Stickers
   * TV/Radio"

I think some folks should have to publicly separate themselves from this guy. Campaign managers should make note of this next year when their opponents send business his way.

Maybe 2009 becomes Bobby May vs Bob McDonnell (Josh - 10/8/2008 11:49:20 AM)
sounds like a good thing to me...

This racist should bring down the entire RPV.
