Lowell reported earlier that John McCain voted against a bill that would provide a much-needed influx of federal money for the mass-transit authority that serves the federal government.  Let's break this down a little more.

Metro and bus stops service Capital Hill, the federal agencies on Constitution Avenue and Independence Avenue and elsewhere, the Pentagon, federal courthouses throughout the area, and the numerous federal parks and museums.  They get federal employees to work and help with traffic problems that would make commuting even worse for government productivity.  Even the Senate -- where McCain used to work -- finds Metro important enough to include its station map on the Senate website.
