The End of Baseball Season Always Makes Me Think of This

I'm thinking about this song even more so today, with the final games having been played at Shea Stadium (the Mets were the first baseball team I rooted for) and Yankee Stadium (I was born in New York City), plus the Nat's and Orioles (my favorite team since I was 10 years old) finishing off absolutely miserable seasons? By the way, there has GOT to be a way to get rid of Peter Angelos - worst owner in baseball history - and the Lerner family - well on their way to Angelos-level awful. Please, someone tell me there's a way to get rid of these losers...

That song always makes me think of an incredible girl named delia (Josh - 9/29/2008 10:40:11 AM)
long time ago... memories.

Go Cubs! National League's "Sisyphus" (hereinva - 9/29/2008 11:00:17 AM)
At least with Yankees and Mets there are moments of pleasant recollection of winning a world series.

For the die hard Cubby fans (and there are lots in the D.C. area)its another Fall Classic season of reserved hope. We have watched the Cubs push that rock up the hill many a times..only to have it roll back down. We love the Cubs, despite the losses, and yes, Cub fans will never forget those 1969 "Miracle Mets" uggh! I am convinced Hillary is still a die hard Cubs fan, she roots for the Yankees. (She grew up in Park Ridge, Illinois).

Love to see a subway series: White Sox v Cubs...a win-win for Chicago!

Great Song, So Long to Shea and "The Stadium" (Great Blue - 9/29/2008 11:23:10 AM)
Great song...best line "saw a Deadhead Sticker on a Cadillac, little voice inside my head said "don't look back"....
Oh, Well.  Looking back.  I saw my first baseball game at the pre-renovation Yankee Stadium.  We had a black and white TV at the time and I'll never forget how incredibly green and perfect the grass was, the brownish red of the infield dirt.  (Boy, did that place ever need a renovation!)  Somebody dropped fireworks off the upper deck into our seats halfway through an otherwise boring game...way cool for an eight year old kid from backwater Richmond!

Hang in there on the O's.  I'm a life-long Red Sox fan, and once we got rid of the Yawkey family and their cheap, racist ways after 86 long years, what do you know?  Two titles in 4 years!  You're right about Peter Angelos.  The fish rots from the head.  As for the Nats, they seem to be following the Marlins model.  Since the Marlins have won more titles lately than the Yankees, give them time to see if it works.

RED Sox - Cubs World Series!  It'll be the highest TV ratings of all time.  If the Cubs win, President Obama could throw out the first ball at their spring opener when they get their WS rings. . . (that would cushion the blow for me!)

The O's had some bright spots (DanG - 9/29/2008 12:48:16 PM)
I've been an Orioles fan since I first saw a baseball diamond.  The Orioles had some moments, especially with sticks.  We need consistent pitching badly, but we have a line-up that can do some damage.  If we didn't have the worst owner in baseball, maybe we could compete.

And as for the Nationals, to hell with them, and anybody who abandoned the Orioles once they moved in.
