I was with a group of moms turned away at Gov. Palin's DC office today

Sarah Palin is not running for the second highest position in a constitutional monarchy.  What does she stand for?

Especially if she is going to play the Mom Card in order to get elected, she owes it to moms and families to fess up and explain where she is on family issues.

I went to the DC office of the state of Alaska today with a group of local moms to deliver a letter from MomsRising.org with nearly 22,000 signatures on it to ask her to explain where she stands on the issues.

A post about this incident made the rec list of dailykos but I was there today and wanted to add my own perspective.
Btw, I'm a first time diarist, so please gently correct if I've breached the RK blogging conventions!

Quoting from the letter:

As members of MomsRising.org we celebrate your path from PTA to Vice Presidential candidate, but we didn't hear much in your speech about what you and your party will do for mothers and families.

and

Due to the economic downturn, mothers and families are struggling more than before.  A quarter of families with children under age six are living in poverty, and having a baby is a leading cause of a "poverty spell" in our nation--a time when income dips below what's needed for food and rent.  Women get a huge wage hit when they have children: mothers make only 73 cents to a man's dollar, and single moms make only about 60cents.  Countries with family-friendly policies and programs in place--like paid family leave and affordable childcare--have smaller wage gaps for mothers, healthier children, and spend less funds later on the criminal justice system, grade repetitions, healthcare, and much more.

Our nation can't afford to ignore the issues of mothers and families any longer.  We want to know where you stand on the issues which are critical to mothers like healthcare, fair pay, paid family and medical leave, afterschool programs, childcare/early learning, paid sick days, and flexible work options.

You can read about it at dailykos but the bottom line is:  we were turned away by Gov Palin's office.  Not allowed to simply deliver a letter with signatures, then turn heel and leave.  Clearly we were a dangerous-looking group. [see photo]

Oh- and the news camera crew that was covering the event was allowed up to Governor Palin's office.

I will also add that the security guards in the building were quite tense and testy.  Perhaps lots of regular-people groups, besides the media, are demanding answers from the sequestered Governor?  I dunno.  I do know that it must be one heck of an exhausting job to run interference for Governor Palin right about now.

I know this was a big news day, but I don't think we should let McCain's diversionary Hail Marys distract from calling the McCain-Palin campaign on their absurdities.

UPDATE
Someone on dailykos posted this picture, lol.

Nice diary, thanks! (Lowell - 9/25/2008 7:00:44 AM)
In sum, the McCain-Palin ticket doesn't want to talk to reporters, the American people, their constituents, David Letterman, or pretty much anyone who might ask them a difficult question or make them feel uncomfortable. Profiles in courage, huh?

What a Scary Bunch! (mmc0412 - 9/25/2008 1:20:09 PM)
Quite the scary bunch there.  Especially that super short bald one in the orange shirt on the far right!  Yes, I can understand them turning you away.  Palin has a hard time dealing with one-on-ones, so I can't imagine having to deal with all of you at once.  Must have sent her into vertigo.  Hopefully the camera crews turned your story in to the media.  This story needs traction!

Welcome to RK! (Tiderion - 9/25/2008 3:10:36 PM)
Nice work.

It would seem that the Republican ticket isn't actually interested in you or your family, just your vote. Listening to Biden speak, despite all of his humorous and folksy gaffes, I would say that he alone will protect America's families.
