Might this be the (political) death of Palin?

Kagro X has a frontpage story up at the Great Orange Satan entitled "She just looooooves to lie!", in which he quotes the following from an ABC news story:
An internal government document obtained by ABC News appears to contradict Sarah Palin's most recent explanation for why she fired her public safety chief, the move which prompted the now-contested state probe into "Troopergate."

Fighting back against allegations she may have fired her then-Public Safety Commissioner, Walt Monegan, for refusing to go along with a personal vendetta, Palin on Monday argued in a legal filing that she fired Monegan because he had a "rogue mentality" and was bucking her administration's directives.

"The last straw," her lawyer argued, came when he planned a trip to Washington, D.C., to seek federal funds for an aggressive anti-sexual-violence program. The project, expected to cost from $10 million to $20 million a year for five years, would have been the first of its kind in Alaska, which leads the nation in reported forcible rape.

The McCain-Palin campaign echoed the charge in a press release it distributed Monday, concurrent with Palin's legal filing. "Mr. Monegan persisted in planning to make the unauthorized lobbying trip to D.C.," the release stated.

But the governor's staff authorized the trip, according to an internal travel document from the Department of Public Safety, released Friday in response to an open records request.

please note

1) she made the claim in a legal filing, and put out a press release about it

2) official documents show her statement was untrue

Therefore, either she lied to the attorney who made the filing, which is unconscionable, or else the lawyer as an officer of the court may have just committed an offense for which he can be disbarred, knowingly filing a false legal document with the court.

In  either case, it sounds like the McBush-Quaylin ticket continues to make things ever worse for themselves.

Could this be the (political) death of Rico Palin?

Questions on Possible Tax Cheating as well (FMArouet21 - 9/20/2008 12:11:06 PM)
Today at Big Orange, clammyc, who is a tax expert, has some pointed questions about Palin's taxes. For example, did she handle state-paid travel expenses properly on her tax returns? Guess we'll have to see the tax returns to find out. Will she release them, as Joe Biden has released his?

Here is the link: clammyc's diary on Palin's taxes.

There's almost no doubt at this point. (Lowell - 9/20/2008 12:15:47 PM)
Palin is NOT a "reformer" in any way, shape or form.
Palin is a pathological liar.
Palin is corrupt.
Palin is an extremist married to a secessionist.
Palin is a big fan of vicious cruelty to animals (see the horrendous aerial killing of wolves video)
Palin is completely unqualified to be VP.

And, of course:

Palin is John McCain's choice for VP.

That should be the end of story, and from the looks of things in Florida, it very well might be.

She's a Serial Liar (AnonymousIsAWoman - 9/20/2008 12:29:58 PM)
At what point does somebody bring charges of perjury?  If she's lying in a legal brief, does this break a law?

Also, did I read right that she now claims she fired the Public Safety Commissioner for attempting to get funding for an anti-sexual violence program, and Alaska has one of the highest rates of foricble rape in the country?  And this is the small town mayor that forced women to pay for their rape kits?  Without a rape kit, you can't prosecute the crime; rape kits are what the ER uses to collect evidence. If a Democrat did something like this he or she would be pilloried as soft on crime and protecting the criminal at the expense of the victim.

Hulllooo - are we letting this bimbo get away with promoting herself as somebody who would understand and improve women's lives.  She seems to side with the old boys and bullies against women every chance she gets.

It won't end until... (ericy - 9/20/2008 1:22:41 PM)

November.  Yes, the media is having a field day with her right now, but like a wounded animal (shot from the airwaves, perhaps), it is still dangerous.

The good news is (Ron1 - 9/20/2008 1:26:38 PM)
this should pretty much end her national career. Although I suppose she could eventually sneak in as a Senator or Rep (replacing the useless Lisa Murkowski), this should pretty much destroy any other chance she has of being on any other national ticket.

Thank God.

Be careful, Palin might send her witch hunter after you! (Shenandoah Democrat - 9/20/2008 1:23:40 PM)
I'm not kidding. The most bizarre story of the campaign so far-

But since I don't believe in his powers (teacherken - 9/20/2008 1:28:39 PM)
and the people among whom I live actually by and large are rational - this is after all the people's republic of NoVa here in Arlington - odds are good that he would find himself committed to a state hospital as a possible risk to himself or others

Just saw a poll that 55 percent... (FMArouet21 - 9/20/2008 2:21:08 PM)
of Americans think that a "guardian angel" has intervened on their behalf at some point in their lives.

Unfortunately, those of us who at least try to be rational are in a minority.

"Swiftboat" the Woman (jackiehva - 9/20/2008 1:32:45 PM)
Hopefully, Palin will self-implode before 11/4.  What the heck was McCain thinking when he named this right wingnut as his VP running mate? Yes, Sarah, you ARE second chair!  And how does her husband and staff get away with not complying with a subpoena to appear in court?  There is one unanswered question after another and she continues to draw the crowds and upstage McCain.  What gives???

And the biggest question of all: what happens if, God forbid, they win?  Will she be in the driver's seat????

Speaking of swiftboating--watch out right after Thursday's debate (Shenandoah Democrat - 9/20/2008 1:46:20 PM)
If I was the Republican smear team (thank god I'm not) I'd be ready to drop a whole of slime right after the debate, especially if Obama looks good and McCain not so good, in order to destroy any bounce.. just like after Barack's stirring convention speech. So next Friday/weekend may be the beginning of the real slime.

debate is Friday night 9 PM n/t (teacherken - 9/20/2008 2:37:22 PM)

This is just another of the thousand cuts. (stpickrell - 9/20/2008 2:01:40 PM)
I think the only thing that will destroy her in and of itself is (1) proof outside of Huffington Post that the 'you pay for rape kits' policy started under her watch/with her approval and (2) someone produces a receipt that shows a victim or a victim's insurance was billed.

Small correction -- if something that we did not know about comes to light from Troopergate this might be sufficient to destroy her. Outright tax cheating might get her too but this is (IMO) not as advanced as Rapekitgate in terms of being developed/known and is way more complicated for an average person to understand.

But don't get me wrong. This (another lie) doesn't really help her, at all. It keeps Troopergate at #2 or #3 on the media depth chart and leads people to have their doubts about Palin.

Remember, the Ted Stevens trial starts Monday and will likely be top five in the media depth chart until a verdict is reached.
