Negative Campaigning

If the McCain campaign is smarter than you think, here's a thought to ponder:

What if they are going so relentlessly negative NOW because they actually want to cause revulsion in the American voter? A few more weeks of lipsticked pigs and sexually-aware kindergartners and America will have overdosed; what happens then to the multiple disgusting revelations about Caribou Barbie and the world's oldest Action Figure which will continue to come to light?

Why most people will turn away in weariness and disgust, that's what. It will be perceived as just more "negative campaigning," and will be bad for both parties. The fact that it is true won't matter, most people seem to either believe everything they see on television ("they couldn't say it if it wasn't true," a Fox News aficionada told me yesterday) or believe it's all lies.

This is very depressing. I believe I will go out and work in my flower beds. The world may crash and burn, but by God, my little corner of Virginia is going to be beautiful. I will continue to go door-to-door this weekend too.
