Solutions, Not Distractions

The distractions started on August 29.

Here, at the end of a generational cycle of extreme conservative politics, the facts behind the Big Lie have been laid bare.  The promise of "family values" has been exposed as conservativism without a conscience - a sham of bigotry and hypocrisy.  The promise of "small government" has been exposed as a failed economics of greed - deadbeat conservatism.  And "strong military" has proven the conservatism of the Bush Maverick - a worldwide disaster of fear-driven arrogance.

America is prepared for solutions to the unconscionable problems conservatives have created.  It's time for Americans to hold the conservatives accountable.

Arising in the face of the clear failure of conservatism, is a powerful and vibrant progressivism which offers a pathway towards "universal opportunity" - education, economic fairness, security and healthcare. A pathway towards "leadership security" - a new paradigm of leading the world by example, securing the nation's energy future, sustainable economics, and de-funding all sides of international terrorism.  Finally it offers a pathway towards "shared responsibility" - the opportunity to move beyond the politics of fear and division towards a true ethic of a responsible national community focused on the shared destiny of the nation and all mankind.

But on August 29, 2009, presidential politics was set on its ear...
...when the party of old, white, southern, men nominated a woman to distract from the Republican record of greed, fear, and failure.

President Bush has emerged as the embodiment of the combined failures of conservatism, and the Republican candidate John McCain is attached to Bush at the hip. But in a brilliant move, the right-wing strategists managed to find a culture warrior ideologically and temperamentally identical to the president, but also undeniably different.  After all, she wears glasses.  So overwhelmed are the American people by the uncharacteristic nature of this choice, that they have seemingly rushed towards her with open arms.

The hope for a brighter future, for real change, left by the wayside, Americans are dazzled and distracted.  Mission accomplished.

But the problems still remain, and now that the initial shock that the Governor of Alaska can actually read a teleprompter has settled in, the McCain campaign is creating a new sideshow every day.  No matter how dishonorable, no matter how outrageous, the McCain campaign will say anything, do anything to distract America from the fact that they have no solutions to the problems Americans really face; anything to distract America from hearing Obama's real solutions.  Lipstickgate, kindergarten education, sexism... on and on... a new distraction every day.

It is the choice of the American people which  will make the difference. Presented as it is with gleem and polish of the far right, Americans still aren't stupid.  In the face of the obvious opportunity for change, America will choose solutions not distractions.

I can't embed this vid, but it's worth a look and exactly what all media should be doing.

Go out there and watch Chris Mathews talking about 'Questioning phony outrage over Lipstick on a pig".

Fred Thompson (Pru - 9/10/2008 8:06:29 PM)
I cannot believe they keep parading him out to support McCain's qualifications to be commander in chief.  What does Fred know????  I SWEAR that in the Spring of 2003, just as the Iraq War was beginning, Thompson stood up in front of hundreds of people at The Richmond Forum (the Forum is a speakers' series  to which lots of people subscribe)...and in response to a question from the audience here is what he said:

"IF THERE ARE NO WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION IN IRAQ I WILL EAT MY HAT".......

I was so astounded that I got out a piece of paper and wrote down what he said.  He seemed so sure, it almost made me want to believe that George W. Bush wasn't the absolute imbecile I feared he was.

I always wondered if Fred was embarrassed he said this...

This BS today induced me to contribute more to Obama (tx2vadem - 9/10/2008 10:18:01 PM)
Keep it up McCain and I'll max out.

I did think that Americans were tired of this.  I can only hope that people's desire to turn away from the devisive 50 + .0000000000001% strategy of Rove and his ilk will win out.
