VA-Sen. looking more competitive

Election expert Chuck Todd of the National Journal makes an interesting list of races that appear to be defying expectations:

"[W]e think the race is a lot more competitive than we thought it would be a year ago (see Virginia). "

So, in his top five list of "races that appear more competitive now than a year ago":

5.Virginia Senate: A year ago, the question was, "How much money will George Allen (R) be able to sock away for his 2008 presidential run?" Now it's "How much of his money will Allen have to use to beat back a pesky but serious Democratic challenger?" Whether it's self-funder Harris Miller or former Navy Secretary Jim Webb, Allen's still a heavy favorite to win, but if either is the Democratic nominee, it's going to put a crimp in Allen's 2008 finance plan.

It's looking more and more like Kangaroo Allen can't use this election to build his piggy bank just to leave us for Iowa and New Hampshire a few months later.

Creigh is the nicest (JC - 4/4/2006 11:31:43 PM)
Creigh is the nicest guy you'll ever meet, but I'm not sure he has the "fire in the belly."  I think Miller is a seasoned insider, and he'll be ready for anything Allen can throw at him.  I think that if Allen tried to pull anything with Webb, Webb would hand Allen Allen's own ass on a platter.

I have emailed Webb (the Gools - 4/4/2006 11:31:43 PM)
I have emailed Webb to ask him to make a decision yeh or ney, but soon, so we can get to work or find another candidate.  NO RESPONSE. So I am putting out this idea:

Draft Creigh Deeds!! US Senate.

He is a strong progressive, he knows how to fight, he already is well known and earned 50% of Virginia's Vote despite having nearly no promotion (McDonnell was well financed), he is a great Campaigner, & has the team ready to go.
He will win against Allen.

He only needs convincing since he is tired from the AG race.  Email him at his website:

SPEAKING Webb, where (Teddy - 4/4/2006 11:31:43 PM)
SPEAKING Webb, where is he in this? Mr. Miller is making the rounds, raising money and his profile, and he's securing commitments of support across the state, thus pre-empting anyone else. Time's a wastin'

"Kangaroo" Allen... (Josh - 4/4/2006 11:31:43 PM)
"Kangaroo" Allen... I love it.

The Web is 100! for Webb!

If we're gonna choos (DanG - 4/4/2006 11:31:43 PM)
If we're gonna choose the candidate, lets make sure it's Webb, ok?

Well, I'll go furthe (Lee Diamond - 4/4/2006 11:31:43 PM)
Well, I'll go further than JC.  We may directly choose the candidate in the sense that we built grassroots support in our great democratic commonwealth for a candidate who can defeat George Allen.  If Allen ends up losing, a lot of the credit will go to grassroots activists.

I hope that the Democratic Party learns how to fight.

And what is more, Mr (JC - 4/4/2006 11:31:43 PM)
And what is more, Mr. Todd has failed to take into account the Democratic blogosphere.  We are ten times more organized than we were last year.

Heck, we may even indirectly choose the candidate.
