Arlington GOP to Dems: Stop Being So Hopeful!

And the Republican party wonders why it can't attract young voters. At the party's rain-delayed picnic over the weekend, a "top Republican" who apparently requested anonymity complained to the Sun Gazette that Democrats need to just drop this whole hope thing:
The Arlington GOP's goal: to secure more votes for McCain in Arlington than President Bush received in 2004. In that race, Bush won just under 30,000 votes in Arlington, about 31 percent of the vote.

GOP leaders said that McCain would have more appeal to independent voters than Bush had. Most ridiculed the goal of Arlington Democrats, who have set an objective of winning 80 percent of the county vote for Barack Obama.

“I thought in politics the goal was to lower expectations,” one top Republican said.
Sorry, anonymous Republican ... we'll try to lower our sights from now on. Also good times -- the Sun Gazette's slideshow from the event. I've seen younger crowds at an AARP meeting. And the kids pictured look like they'd rather be doing homework.
