Could McNasty go McNuclear?

Words fail me as I ponder the fact that intelligent people -- people who are aware of the specific events described in the linked article, people who we rely on to act honestly and responisbly, people who are senators, governors, congressman and journalists -- can not only abide the election of John S. McCain as President of the United States, but in some cases actively support it.

Read this McClatchy story about McCain's temper, and be afraid, be very afraid, of what might happen should a person like this be placed in a position where no one can say "no" to him.

A frightening excerpt on the flip.

Back in Washington, families of POW_MIAs said they have seen McCain's wrath repeatedly. Some families charged that McCain hadn't been aggressive enough about pursuing their lost relatives and has been reluctant to release relevant documents. McCain himself was a prisoner of war for five-and-a-half years during the Vietnam War.

In 1992, McCain sparred with Dolores Alfond, the chairwoman of the National Alliance of Families for the Return of America's Missing Servicemen and Women, at a Senate hearing. McCain's prosecutor-like questioning of Alfond - available on YouTube - left her in tears.

Four years later, at her group's Washington conference, about 25 members went to a Senate office building, hoping to meet with McCain. As they stood in the hall, McCain and an aide walked by.

Six people present have written statements describing what they saw. According to the accounts, McCain waved his hand to shoo away Jeannette Jenkins, whose cousin was last seen in South Vietnam in 1970, causing her to hit a wall.

As McCain continued walking, Jane Duke Gaylor, the mother of another missing serviceman, approached the senator. Gaylor, in a wheelchair equipped with portable oxygen, stretched her arms toward McCain.

"McCain stopped, glared at her, raised his left arm ready to strike her, composed himself and pushed the wheelchair away from him," according to Eleanor Apodaca, the sister of an Air Force captain missing since 1967.

Even without the nukes . . . (JPTERP - 9/7/2008 8:29:30 PM)
McCain's temperament is going to limit his effectiveness as a negotiator.

I remember hearing stories about his tirades in a European trip before the most recent Iraq War.

I am absolutely certain that Sarkozy in France, and Brown in the U.K. would much rather have Obama as a partner to work with than McCain.  McCain will undermine our security by further alienating our allies -- assuming he makes it through a first term.  Palin would be an absolute disaster.

We really need a video or some such... (ericy - 9/7/2008 9:39:35 PM)

I guess we keep pushing his buttons and see what happens.

My dream is that he blows his top during a debate.  Perhaps too much to ask for, but with the craptastic campaign that the Republicans have run so far I couldn't rule it out completely.

The thought of Palin, aka Politician Barbie, in charge of our armed forces makes me real scared.  Chasing a moose on a snowmobile, or making sure the trash was picked up in her town of 8,000, maybe, but war and peace?
