A "can of Red Bull" vs. "a bottle of Ambien pills"

The quote of the day goes to national Democratic strategist and McLean resident Paul Begala, courtesy of an article on the Wolf-Feder race in today's Washington Post:

Feder's supporters, however, say Wolf can no longer count on the longtime residents that once made up his base. Since 2002, about 168,000 new voters have been added to the rolls in the district, according to Feder's campaign, which is banking that many of the transplants are leaning Democratic. They say Feder brings a jolt of energy to a region that is craving it.

"Judy is a can of Red Bull, and Frank is a bottle of Ambien pills," said Paul Begala, a national Democratic strategist and McLean resident who is supporting Feder. "I have never seen people more hungry for change. And when you think of change, you don't think of [an elderly] guy who has been in Washington for 28 years."

That's one thing about Paul Begala, he certainly doesn't mince words! :) But seriously, this race really is NOT about whether Frank Wolf is a "nice guy," it's about how much the 10th CD has changed politically the past few years, and whether or not those 10th CD voters would prefer an energetic voice for change (Judy Feder, obviously) or the same ol' same ol' status quo (Frank Wolf, who's been in Congress for 28 years and wants 2 more).

Can Judy Feder win in 8 weeks from now? It's not going to be easy, of course, but "Red Bull" definitely beats "Ambien" if you want a jolt of energy level, and Feder definitely beats Wolf if you want a jolt of change in Washington.  Go Judy!

P.S. By the way, I've got to say that when I saw that there was a Post article this morning on the 10th CD, I instinctively cringed, assuming that it would be by Amy Gardner, who might as well have been working for Jeannemarie Devolites Davis' campaign in 2007, whose reporting on the Metro to Dulles project has been abysmal, who has obviously favored Frank Wolf (and Tom Davis), etc.  To my pleasant surprise, the article was by a far superior reporter, Sandhya Somashekhar, and the story reflected that - fair, factual, objective, real journalism for a change. Good work, Ms. Somashekhar!

Full disclosure: For anyone who might not be aware, I have been consulting to the Feder for Congress campaign since the summer of 2007. Obviously, for anyone who knows the first thing about my political views, I would have supported her no matter what, having done so strongly in 2006 as well when I was not a consultant to her campaign. The bottom line is that I strongly believe Judy Feder would make a (far, far) better representative in Congress than Frank Wolf.  It's very simple, pretty much a "no brainer," to be blunt about it.
