The Cowardice of Conservative Hypocrisy

Hypocrisy, thy name is conservatism.  After decades of conservative spin control, it is still shocking to be confronted with the unconscionable double standard of the right-wing media.  Conservatives will do anything, say anything to hold on to power.  Now, as the pillars of their hegemony are beginning to crumble, Americans are being presented with a powerful alternative.

Remember this: there is a generational change afoot in America that McCain/Palin is attempting and failing to subvert.  America is hungry for change, and the Bush Republican ticket's false claims of Reform are no substitute.

The real change America seeks is the reintegration of ethical aspiration back into public discourse.  Stand for what you believe in.  Set your course and take responsibility for the results.  That's the American principle that these deadbeat conservatives have shirked for decades.

When will Sarah Palin make herself available to the press?  When will she be held accountable for lying about her opposition to the "bridge to nowhere"?  Who will confront her about the hypocrisy of her massive earmark success and claims as a reformer?  Where is the outrage and disgust at the massive Bush-style debt with which she saddled her tiny town?

Who will she blame for the lies and hypocrisy? Probably you, since you are their ultimate victim, and blaming the victim is page 1 of the conservative playbook.

UPDATE:  We have our answer.  It's astonishing, but Palin will not face the media during this campaign.  Republicans have betrayed every trust, yet they want America to set a perfect cipher, an absolute unknown, a heartbeat away from the Presidency.  John McCain's desperate, pathetic, insulting campaign continues.

Ah, a preemptive strike against Macaca. (Pain - 9/5/2008 8:25:42 AM)

Remember how George Allen wasn't allowed to engage the press after his little oopsie last fall?

This time around, they're just going to muzzle the pit bull early, and avoid any unpleasant gaffes.  They'll just walk her out occasionally to get a Praise the Lord, or Halleluiah, and then take her back to the hotel room.

I mean, fall 2006. (Pain - 9/5/2008 8:41:51 AM)
.

I suspect that will change (aznew - 9/5/2008 9:44:27 AM)
There is no way they will get away with doing that, and they know it.

Look for them to put her on Fox and other reliable conservative venues, at a minimum.

The problem, even there, is that there are some Fox reporters, like Chris Wallace, who even though they are GOP tools, will not be willing to sacrifice their careers or all their credibility on behalf of Palin, and go along with the program.

This morning on Morning Joe (MSNBC) (Catzmaw - 9/5/2008 10:12:20 AM)
I heard this very question come up.  I think it was Gary(?) Davis talking about the campaign, and he was asked why she's not scheduled for a talk or news show like Meet the Press.  After all, Biden's going to be on MTP on Sunday.  He tap-danced all over the place and kept saying that Biden didn't go on any shows for a week before going on MTP, but they kept pressing him about the almost complete lack of access the press has to Palin.  Biden's happy to talk to any reporter who talks to him, and he's certainly not reluctant to go on a news show.

This points up another one of Palin's little problems.  She's never been on any news show outside of Alaska, and has no real background in off the cuff responses to reporters' questions.  In a lot of ways she's been in a little bubble up there in Alaska.

Wasilla is NOT the second largest city - not even close (relawson - 9/5/2008 10:11:47 AM)
I use to live in the largest...

1.Anchorage 278,700
2.Fairbanks 31,142
3.Juneau 30,737
4.Sitka 8920
5.Wasilla 9236

I wonder what all the service members at Fort Wainwright, Eielson Air Force Base, Fort Greely and Clear Air Force Station think about Rove.  Those bases are all in or around Fairbanks.  How could he not know that city is the second largest?

Juneau is the capital - so Palin spends much of her time in that little city.  But it must be "big city" to her at over three times the size of Wasilla.

Karl Rove is a moron.

Wasilla #5 because of 2000 census (relawson - 9/5/2008 10:17:07 AM)
The 2006 estimate has Wasilla bigger than Sitka.  But the 2000 census shows Sitka in the lead.  My numbers are estimates so Wasilla is neck and neck with Sitka for #4.

That Video is Awesome--Thanks Josh for posting!!!!! (bladerunner - 9/5/2008 10:22:12 AM)
It shows hypocracy to the highest degree. Just remember if Biden's daughter was a 17 year old, and was pregnet, all hell would be breaking loose.

chelsea... just sayin' n/t (Josh - 9/5/2008 12:51:38 PM)

It's denial (Quizzical - 9/5/2008 11:26:33 AM)
I came away from McCain's speech saddened.   With all the talk of the need for change, McCain implicitly acknowledged that the county has serious problems.   But he reverted to the typical Republican pledge to cut spending and lower taxes, even while promising all kinds of stuff that takes revenue to do.  So in his big moment, he flinched from telling us that sacrifice and tough medicine are going to be needed.  In short, he did nothing to bring his supporters or his party out of denial.   It's not just cynicism, it's denial.

We can't solve the problems we're facing by staying in denial.  I don't want to pay more taxes, believe me.  But none of the positive things that the presidential candidates have promised are going to come to pass without (1) ending the financial hemorrhaging that is the Iraq occupation and (2) generating more federal revenue to service the war debt and pay for all these new initiatives.  The latter is going to take painful spending cuts and painful tax increases.

Otherwise, you can't get there from here.
