Gilmore: "I have a national following. I'm a national leader."

Jim Gilmore has the most unintentionally funny quotes of the day.

*"I have a national following. I'm a national leader."
Yeah, right, that's why Gilmore completely tanked when he ran for the Republican presidential nomination, and that's why he's raising no money for his long-long-longshot U.S. Senate bid against Mark Warner.

*"I'm looking forward to the day I can go into the Senate with solid, conservative leadership."  That's great, the only problem is that "day" will not be in 2009.

*"I'm going to win the election. Don't kid yourself."
Oh, don't worry Jim, we're not kidding ourselves at all. But you keep on telling yourself you're going to win the election, whatever gets you up in the morning ya know? :)

Now, back to reality: Go Mark Warner! :)

I'm starting to feel really sorry for this guy (Silence Dogood - 9/3/2008 10:28:44 AM)
I kind of want to give him a hug and tell him that being a bad politician doesn't make him a bad person, it simply means he should be spending his time pursuing other interests to which he is better suited.  Like writing childrens' books.  You know, because he spends all of his time living in a fairy tale.

Seriously, though.  I don't care if a politician wants to lie to me--so many politicians have lied to me in the past that it's hardly remarkable--but when a man lies to himself, it's a cry for help.  Someone get this man a puppy or two so he can finally find the unconditional acceptance he apparently needs.

You are a "compassionate commentator" (oldsoldier - 9/3/2008 3:59:59 PM)
BUT, Jimmy doesn't have any skills that would lead to success in the private sector.

Talk about chutzpah -- from the guy who gave us that phenom of a deficit years ago. This guy should buy a house in Fool's Paradise. But on another note, it's pretty damned exciting to think we'll have two Dems in the Senate for the first time since I was picking out big words in The Evening Star. (G-d willing.)
