CBS News Poll: Obama/Biden 48%-McCain/Palin 40%

This is great news:

Democratic nominee Barack Obama's lead over Republican John McCain has grown after the Democratic convention, which 71 percent of Americans say they watched. Obama and his running mate Joe Biden now lead McCain and Sarah Palin 48 percent to 40 percent, according to the latest CBS News poll.

This is the first CBS News poll to include the vice presidential candidates in the horserace question.

More good news; the "enthusiasm gap" has actually widened, according to this poll:

The poll shows an increase in the number of Obama voters who are enthusiastic about him. Sixty-seven percent of Obama voters say they enthusiastically support him, which is up from 48 percent who said so before the convention. About a quarter of McCain's backers are enthusiastic about him--unchanged from before the Democratic convention.

In other news, it turns out that Sarah Palin may have been a member - or at least was very sympathetic to - the secessionist Alaska Independence Party.  Check it out here, including incriminating videos.  What on earth, di the McCain campaign do ANY vetting on this pick?!?

P.S. Gallup has it at 49%-43% Obama over McCain.

If We Can Focus on the Issues (dsvabeachdems - 9/1/2008 6:44:51 PM)
instead of humming along with this evolving country ballad, Obama will win on the issues. These distractions serve the Republicans who would rather not discuss the serious business of governing or matters of national policy.

Even Better (aznew - 9/1/2008 8:48:43 PM)
USAT has it at 50-43 among registered voters.

No vetting process? (Hugo Estrada - 9/1/2008 8:56:36 PM)
My wife told said that she read somewhere that Palin would only allow herself to be considered for the ticket if they would accept her right away. In other words, just say yes and no vetting process.

The fact that all of the defects that she has are coming out so fast: no knowledge, bridge to nowhere, calling Hillary a "whiner", etc. At this point, I wouldn't be surprise if a macaca video of Palin showed up in the next month.

Whether the rumor is true or not, the vetting process that McCain has done seems to show how bad his decision making is now.

McCain's selection . . . (JPTERP - 9/2/2008 12:14:54 AM)
in itself seems to be something akin to a macaca video (e.g. it's causing fence sitters to see him in a new, less flattering light).  Among social conservatives this pick may be a winner, but among some moderate leaners, this pick appears to be turning into an absolute disaster.

I'm curious to see whether Palin makes it through the convention this week as McCain's VP, or whether he pivots and chooses someone else.

The Alaska Independent Party thing... (ericy - 9/1/2008 9:34:14 PM)

really concerns me.  In fact one of the things that someone found indicated that the AIP recognized the need to infiltrate the major parties in order to advance their agenda.  And with Sarah Palin, they may have their mole - although not a terribly well concealed one.

Its about McCain (Rebecca - 9/1/2008 10:34:38 PM)
And if you think its about Rove then its about McCain's listening to Rove. It seems that the Republicans have run out of luck. With McCain its really about judgement. It seems McCain really has been living in a bubble for years. When one has to face the elements, that is take care of onesself, one stays on top of things and alert. McCain has had a soft life for so long that he has lost all judgement and touch with reality (that's assuming he ever had any judgement, of course). I bet he doesn't even know what the taxes are on his houses.

I think we are dealing with another soft (never had to take care of himself), out of touch, overgrown frat boy. This must be something lile what it was like in Europe when ordinary people observed the aristocracy - seeing all their inbreeding, mental disorders, and arrogance.

McCain was no frat boy. (thegools - 9/2/2008 11:12:22 AM)
"Soft (never had to take care of himself)" perhaps, "out of touch," probably.  However, despite all of his failings and weaknesses, I will defend the idea that he was no frat boy.  The US Naval Acad. allows no social fraternities as far as I know.
