Mark Warner, Science, and the Nerd Community

Hillary may have delivered the most electrifying speech thus far but she didn't impress the nerds of America like Mark Warner did. According to Wired.com, it was his promotion of science and technology as a promise to the American future that lit up Twitters across America. In his speech, Mark Warner said this:
Just think about this: In four months, we will have an administration that actually believes in science!
which was undoubtedly one of the best lines of the night.
This line is apparently now the battlecry for nerds all across the country. Nerds, like myself, know that science and technology are the backbone of growth for this country as it has been since 1900. The History Channel talks all the time of how American ingenuity and some elbow grease changed the world. American innovation is the source of our success.

Mark Warner and Barack Obama both support net neutrality, which for those of you who haven't heard of it, is

the reason why the Internet has driven economic innovation, democratic participation, and free speech online. It protects the consumer's right to use any equipment, content, application or service on a non-discriminatory basis without interference from the network provider. With Net Neutrality, the network's only job is to move data -- not choose which data to privilege with higher quality service.
as stated by Save the Internet. It's really just the freedom to communicate, another freedom of information. The flow of information may be a security risk but it is also the reason why America exists. McCain opposes it according to his words here when he said that
we should let the market and technology solve the Net-neutrality issue: "When you control the pipe you should be able to get profit from your investment."
Imagine if the market decided that traffic to RK should be limited or taxed. Blogs would slowly die out to be sure, destroying the best opportunity to rebuild a free press and civic interest in the state of public affairs and politics since the pamphlet.

Technology is an important issue this year. This election truly is about the future versus the past. Technologists need to stand up and fight for the Democratic ticket.

even we nerds deserve a better keynote than that.  Warner can govern, and potentially be a good Senator.  But he's is a terrible motivational speaker.  His speech was flat and had zero motivational value, even for nerds.  Very disappointing.  I cannot say how much.

What a great Senator he will be! (VA Breeze - 8/28/2008 9:00:26 AM)
No, his speech didn't have the emotional impact that others had, but watching C-Span, many people were nodding in agreement - mainly older delegates.

The convention is reaching many independents and I bet many liked his message too!
