Hillary speech...

Chelsea's introduction, short and sweet.  Intro video... awesome!

The crowd loves her so much that they won't let her start!

I'm here as a proud mother, as a proud Democrat, as a proud Senator from New York, a proud American, and a proud supporter of Barack Obama.

It is time to take back the country we love.  Whether you voted for me, or you voted for Barack, it is time now time to unite as a single party with a single purpose.

None of us can afford to sit on the sidelines.  This is a fight for the future and it is a fight we must win together.  I haven't spent the last 35 years in the trenches, fighting for children, advocating for universal health care, and fighting for women's rights, to see another Republican in the White House squander the promise of a country that fulfills the hopes of it's people.  And you haven't fought for the last 18 months or suffered through the last 8 years.

No way.  No how. No McCain.

-----------
A few points:

1.  Hillary put out a historic call for unity.  Not just for her delegates, but also for the American people.

2.  Hillary called out those resistant to Obama - "Did you do this just for me?"  This is bigger than any cult of personality, and nothing is worth 4 more years of McBush.  Her "Twin cities crack" is genius.

3.  Democrats LOVE Hillary.  Her call to keep going! keep going! keep going!  was incredibly powerful.  Don't stop now, and don't lose track of what's important.

Barack Obama is my candidate.

When the polls finally close, and the ads are finally off the air.  It is all about you and your families.

Your stories.  Your hard work.  Your determination to keep going often in the face of enormous obstacles.  You made me laugh, and you even made me cry.  You allowed me to become part of your lives, and you became part of mine.

I will always remember the single mom who adopted 2 kids with autism. She didn't have health insurance.  She developed cancer.  She came to me with her bald head with my name written on it, and asked me to fight for healthcare.

I'm just going to watch... more discussion in comments.

Saying all the right things (hallcr3 - 8/26/2008 10:58:20 PM)
Although her speech sounds more like a stump speech, she's getting real emotion and energy out of the audience. She's backing all of her key points with a "This is why I support Barack Obama," too.

The more energy I feel coming off of the crowd from her speech, the more I think about how amazing an Obama-Clinton ticket would've been.

She's awesome (Ron1 - 8/26/2008 11:01:27 PM)
I'm loving it.

Every note pitch perfect.

Ownage. (hallcr3 - 8/26/2008 11:03:32 PM)
Hillary owns this crowd. I thought this was a pro-Obama crowd? LOL. Just kidding.

Democrats Love Hillary (Josh - 8/26/2008 11:04:50 PM)
Democrats Love Obama

The intro video was amazing (phriendlyjaime - 8/27/2008 12:42:44 AM)

Great Zingers (Josh - 8/26/2008 11:04:08 PM)
She's tearing McCain apart.

"It's appropriate that George Bush will be with John McCain in the Twin Cities, because these days they're awfully hard to tell apart."

Awesome!

Line of the Night! (Ron1 - 8/26/2008 11:08:20 PM)
In a night of many great lines, that was The One.

[2nd best: Schweitzer on drilling: "Even if we drill in ALL of John McCain's backyards, we still won't find all the energy we need here in America."]

D'oh (Ron1 - 8/26/2008 11:14:51 PM)
I messed up the best part of Schweitzer's line:

"If you drilled everywhere, if you drilled in all John McCain's backyards, even the ones he doesn't know he has ... That single-answer proposition is a dry well."

Awesome.

Schweitzer 2008 (Josh - 8/26/2008 11:19:32 PM)
If Deeds or Moran model their campaigns on Schweitzer's, he'll win 2009.

She is doing a great job! (relawson - 8/26/2008 11:06:52 PM)
Unfortunately there is some news guy counting the number of times she said "I support Obama".

Even though she gave an impassioned speech on if her supporters supporter her, or the lady with cancer and the kids without healthcare, they will spin this (somehow) into something negative.

I hope they prove me wrong, but I'll bet the right-wing media is going to keep the "Hillary Divides the Party" story alive.  Or should I say fairytale.

The Women Have Stolen the Show (hallcr3 - 8/26/2008 11:11:08 PM)
Nancy Pelosi, Michelle Obama, Sasha Obama, and now Hillary Clinton

Except for Teddy, the Convention has been lit up by the powerful and strong women of our Party.

As a young father of a young daughter, this is incredible to see and I'm fortunate to have these role models for my future Congresswoman or President.

Don't forget Lilly Ledbetter (Chris Guy - 8/26/2008 11:25:43 PM)
I was really moved by her story. You could hear the pain in her voice.

Is there a link to the vid online? (hallcr3 - 8/26/2008 11:34:05 PM)
I didn't catch that one.

Tomorrow there are 19 speakers... only 1 woman (Josh - 8/26/2008 11:34:19 PM)
yesterday was for introducing the Obama family
Today was for Unity
Tomorrow will be 100% death to McCain

It started off slow today and yesterday (relawson - 8/26/2008 11:38:09 PM)
Hopefully Senator Clinton's speech will be the one that chances the pace of this convention.  It is time to damage McCain beyond all repair.

Somebody finally fixed Chris Mathews' hair. (hallcr3 - 8/26/2008 11:12:23 PM)

"Hillary- Grand Slam, Home Run" (Tyler Durden - 8/26/2008 11:19:31 PM)
Proof that going super negative in a D primary does not work!

If she had given this speech during the campaign...

This should settle the fact that any remaining "pumas" are Mccain spies

That made Kennedy's speech in 1980 (Chris Guy - 8/26/2008 11:21:16 PM)
look downright pathetic in comparison.

The polls won't close for another 8 years, but I'm ready to make a projection for 2016...President: Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY)

No (HisRoc - 8/27/2008 12:51:51 AM)
That is exactly why her speech tonight was so heroic.  Her time has passed.  Even if Obama doesn't win this year (and he will) she would not be the nominee in 2012.  By 2016 she will be an 'elder statesman' of the party and not competitive.  Just like Ted Kennedy, she will live out her political life in the Senate and always be a welcomed speaker at the DNC.

No Democratic candidate has ever staged a come-back for the Presidential nomination since Stevenson in 1956.  Not Kerry, not Gore, not Biden (who won't be the nominee in 2016), not Dukakis, not Mondale, et al.  It is an article of faith in the Democratic Party:  you get one shot and then you are out.

No Way, No How, No McCain (Josh - 8/26/2008 11:22:35 PM)
Good lord... I want the bumper sticker!

I want the t-shirt.

I bet they'll hit the streets by tomorrow.

and at the RNC, (sammi fredenburg - 8/27/2008 6:14:18 PM)
i'm willing to bet dollars to donuts well see:

No Way, No How, NObama

;)

I love Hillary! (tx2vadem - 8/26/2008 11:27:27 PM)
The video tribute.  The camera panning to Bill as he was saying I love you.  The stories about the people she met during the campaign that touched her.  The John McCain take down.  The it's not about me, it's about the issues.  The finish.  It was just perfection.  It touched me.  She is just a phenomenal person.  And we are so lucky to have her as public servant and in our party.

On a similar note, you got your wish.  You were disappointed by Pelosi's speech, but this was just fantastic.

The Pundits Were Wrong... no surprise there (Josh - 8/26/2008 11:32:11 PM)
Going in to this speech, pundits said that there was no way for Hillary to win.  If she endorsed Obama it would signal the end of the Clinton era in Democratic politics.  If she held back, she'd come across as a party spoiler.

There was another option they had not previously considered...

Hillary pours it all on for Obama and destroys McCain, and endears herself even more deeply to her supporters and all Democrats everywhere.

Poor Poor Conservatives... (doctormatt06 - 8/27/2008 12:07:59 AM)
there sad attacks using Hillary Clinton are now crap...I feel so sad for them...boo hoo

As said above: (Barbara - 8/27/2008 12:11:38 AM)
Grand Slam, Home Run, Score!!  I hope Josh is right and the bumper stickers are available tomorrow.  And the t-shirts.  I'd like one for the watch party on Thursday.

Hats off to Hillary! (jlmccreery - 8/27/2008 12:53:29 AM)
What I just posted on bestoftheblogs.com

-----

Hillary Clinton just gave a real barnburner of a speech, fusing her passion for issues and appreciation of the people who worked so hard to get her elected with a clear and unequivocal argument that all that she and her supporters have worked for for the past 18 months and suffered during the past eight years makes it imperative to elect Barack Obama. The alternative? "No how, no way, no McCain."  A round of applause, please.

thanks for posting this (Adam Parkhomenko - 8/27/2008 10:11:36 AM)
great speech.

If you want t-shirts, stickers, buttons and more I found a Site!!!!! (ryanshibbydude - 8/27/2008 1:08:14 PM)

I agree with the first comment (Lowell - 8/27/2008 7:39:20 PM)
Wow CNN is really trying its best to try to somehow show that there is no unity. This network has become a stupid rumor mill, and is starting to sound like Fox with conservative commentators who outnumber liberals 2-1.
