NBC: Not Kaine, Not Bayh

By: Lowell

For what it's worth, courtesy of MSNBC's "First Read":

As reported in her Nightly News spot, Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh and Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, according to sources, were told they're out of the running.

So...Biden? Clinton? Clark? Other (e.g., ChetnotJohn Edwards)? What do you think?

UPDATE: This is interesting, maybe we can all go to sleep tonight?

7:35 p.m. ET: The Associated Press is now writing that "late Friday, several officials said the text message announcement (that the Obama campaign plans to send supporters to announce the VP news) would be distributed Saturday morning, a few hours before a scheduled rally at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Ill., where the Democratic ticket would appear for the first time."

and thank Aznew (jsrutstein - 8/22/2008 8:42:28 PM)
for watching Fox so we don't have to, and letting us learn in a different thread that a private plane from Chicago may have landed in Delaware.

Someone's gotta do it ... n/t (aznew - 8/22/2008 8:57:09 PM)

4 (Eileen Levandoski - 8/22/2008 8:51:27 PM)
whole electoral votes... just saying.

Biden will help in Pennsylvania (aznew - 8/22/2008 9:04:48 PM)
He is known in Philly because Delaware contains some of that city's suburbs, and he is from Scranton.

Delaware is a solid Dem state anyway, but even if it weren't, do VPs ever help swing states that the top of the ticket would not have carried anyway?

Virginia? (Eileen Levandoski - 8/22/2008 9:09:09 PM)
It's all coulda, woulda, shoulda I guess now...

That's true n/t (aznew - 8/22/2008 9:12:28 PM)

And yet (Randy Klear - 8/22/2008 9:39:54 PM)
my Democratic friend in Scranton just said, "God, I hope it's not Biden."

It's not about DE. . . (Bobby - 8/22/2008 9:27:51 PM)
it's about Iraq, foreign policy, experience and middle class white voters.  Look I like Kaine, but I don't think he does any more for Obama than Warner already does, and there is no other VP candidate who is from a swing state that could deliver it (I like Bayh too but seriously doubt he brings IN).  Also with Biden you get a pit bull that will hound McCain all the way to election day. While he has been in DC for a while he doesn't act like it, he feels fresh, he shoots straight and hits hard. I think he is the best pick that has been mentioned. There is no one else who brings what he does to the table.

Hmmm (carman788 - 8/22/2008 8:53:14 PM)
For someone who is not considered to be in the running, Hillary Clinton is surely getting a lot of VP buzz. I don't think she's going to get it. Right now, I feel it's Biden.

I had heard news reports during the day (aznew - 8/22/2008 9:01:23 PM)
that financial disclosure of Clinton foundation stuff was a big hurdle. Outside of whether Obama wanted Hillary in the first place, that sounds about right and I could understand how that would be a dealbreaker for all parties. I believe Clinton successfully avoided Foundation disclosure during the primaries.

not to be a Biden shill, but (jsrutstein - 8/22/2008 8:55:39 PM)
as Chris Matthews, not-so-closeted Clinton-phobe, has pointed out Biden has the humble Scranton roots that are oft praised by Clinton-philes as being the key to the types of voters in the types of states that Obama couldn't win in the primaries.

my sister told me (pvogel - 8/22/2008 9:00:16 PM)
Bayh!!!!!

This is becsauuse of the bumper stickers and tshirts she recieved in Denver to sell.

This is truly inside info, straight from the source.

Sugarplums for me. (jsrutstein - 8/22/2008 9:09:34 PM)
I'm not going to bed with visions of Obama-Bayh merchandise.  No offense to your sister, but I'm choosing to believe that her merch is part of yet another headfake by Team Obama.  Moreover, one has to assume given the intense amount of media scrutiny that others would have leaked this, too, and we would have heard this elsewhere.

It's Bayh.... (Flipper - 8/22/2008 9:05:59 PM)
and pvogel is correct - see article.

Saturday? (aznew - 8/22/2008 9:15:55 PM)
Perhaps Obama is doing that so he can torture Joe Lieberman for one extra day.

The only thing missing from this... (chspkheel - 8/22/2008 9:35:40 PM)
Is an intimate, romantic setting, a grecian pedestal with five or six roses on it for the (losers) runners-up, and the big fat ring in the pocket for the winner!

If the head-fake is Biden, then I would say that Chet would be the pick.  He would be an incredibly qualified choice, strong on military and veterans issues, and is GWB's Congressman (what irony)!  He's as solid as you can get and he is not strongly identified with the "ESTABLISHMENT".

It Will Never Be Chet Edwards (HisRoc - 8/22/2008 10:14:52 PM)
Two words:  Drayton MacLane.

That's all I'm gonna say.

We won't know (Tiderion - 8/22/2008 9:36:06 PM)
for sure until the campaign tells us. Everything else is pure speculation. We know they are faking out everyone anyways.

Bayh, Follks! (pvogel - 8/22/2008 10:09:45 PM)
I'm not going to bed with visions of Obama-Bayh merchandise.  No offense to your sister, but I'm choosing to believe that her merch is part of yet another headfake by Team Obama.  Moreover, one has to assume given the intense amount of media scrutiny that others would have leaked this, too, and we would have heard this elsewhere.

answer....  it would be a huge waste  of  money to print up  all thse bumper st., tshirts, etc.

Even Drudge has an image of the bumper sticker.

It is fun to watch Faux news get faked out tonight!

ABC News...... (Flipper - 8/22/2008 11:26:42 PM)
is reporting that the Secret Service has been dispatched to Biden's home in Delaware.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/polit...

I've wanted an Obama Edwards ticket for quite awhile (relawson - 8/22/2008 11:39:21 PM)
I should have specified which.  It would be interesting if it were "Chet" Edwards - whoever that is.

OK Obama campaign.  I'm about ready for bed.  Send the email already.

I think it's (Chris Guy - 8/22/2008 11:40:03 PM)

I think you are correct Chris (Shawn - 8/23/2008 12:24:56 AM)

I hope it's Biden. n/t (harmonjd - 8/22/2008 11:45:47 PM)

CNN has confirmed that it's Biden. (Johnny Camacho - 8/23/2008 12:57:25 AM)
I'm watching it right now.

It just popped up for me... (Tiderion - 8/23/2008 1:01:37 AM)
BOOOO!!!
s
Delay brings two potential risks for Obama.

As it now stands, his announcement will land on a weekend and bleed right into the nominating convention - a time when a nominee can already expect to be dominating national attention.

What's more, by keeping expectations hanging for so long, Obama makes it harder to deliver on all the anticipation. A weeks-long strip tease, ending with a naked Joe Biden or Evan Bayh - or some other safe but unsexy choice - might prove deflating.

From here.

Biden is indeed safe but unsexy.

I still wanted a surprise Mark Warner VP, even though I knew it wouldn't happen.

It Is Biden (HisRoc - 8/23/2008 1:28:11 AM)
You heard it first here.
