Wow, this is impressive even by the lofty standards the Obama campaign has set the past year.

The presidential campaign of Barack Obama says the Democratic candidate raised more than $51 million in July.

Obama's campaign began August with $65.8 million on hand, according to a statement the campaign issued Saturday in Chicago.

In contrast, John McCain raised $27 million in July and has $21 million "cash on hand" - $45 million less than Barack Obama!

UPDATE: More great news: the DNC raised $28 million in July, "the first time since October 2004 it's outraised the RNC."

So, $80 million in July. Assuming that pace can be maintained, that's $240 million through the election -- and potentially much more once the primary season is over and the big money people can max out again.

This reminds me of early summer of '92 where we had things in our favor cause of Republican inability to govern (in that case it was mostly economics) effectively, but things just had not jelled yet.  All we have to do is work hard.  We know how to work hard on campaigns.  We have an awesome leader and we just have to make it happen.

need to put it in context (teacherken - 8/16/2008 4:30:48 PM)
McCain gets 83 mill or so after accepting his party's nomination on September 4.   Thus Obama still has 83-24=59 million more he needs to raise just to be even with that infusion.   Of course, he has August, September, and October.  IF fundraising were to hold at approximately the same levels, that would be another 150 million

whoosh (Susan Mariner - 8/17/2008 1:08:03 AM)
thanks for clarifying that point

Obama saves the world... Again! (vowel_Movement - 8/16/2008 6:44:07 PM)

Governor Tim Kaine actually said this folks:

"It was a bad crisis for the world. It required tough words but also a smart approach to call on the international community to step in. And I'm very, very happy that the Senator's [Barak Obama's] request for a ceasefire has been complied with by President Medvedev."

Maybe a single heart beat away.  Sheesh!

Ya'll got to be kidding me.  Quote the Raven... "HUA?"

Pwn3d and disowned!

I kindof wanted to see where Sen. Kyl was going with that.  Maybe... "she has nothing to do with it but what else do you expect John [McCain] to do?  His campaign has nothing better to do..."
