Lyin' for McCain: So-called Mainstream Media Circles Wagons

On the side-board, here at RK, I've written about the pro-McCain shill that is David Broder.  Now I'd like to talk about the rest of what passes for a media in this country. As Mediamatters.org has documented here the media persist in pushing every ounce of McCain and far-right spin.  Here are some examples from Media Matters, along with a few more examples I added to Media Matters' list:

G求Obama should do whatever McCain wants; otherwise, you deserve whatever...
G求Obama is "too fit"because he's not a paunched, beer-swilling (and distributing) couch potato.
G求Obama is "elitist" because he's smart(er) than the imbecile fifth-from-the-bottom-of-his-class McCain.
G求Obama's not to be trusted because he didn't try to be the biggest screw-up of his entire college class, as another candidate did.
G求He gave a great speech in Germanyyou know what that means.
G求Unlike John McCain, Obama gets policy, so he's not like everyone else.
G求He drinks orange juice for breakfast once, so he's weird (and you are supposed to conjure up an OJ of a different kind).  So, sayeth the babbling fool, Chris Matthews.
*He's been a law professor, so you know he's just like the ridiculous stereotype McCainiacs paint of college professors.
G求He's got a funny name, so that "must" be a "problem."
*He's on vacation and that's a "problem." Cokie Roberts went to far as to say:

"...does not make any sense whatsoever. I know his grandmother lives in Hawaii and I know Hawaii is a state, but it has the look of him going off to some sort of foreign, exotic place. He should be in Myrtle Beach, and, you know, if he's going to take a vacation at this time.

[Aside: Is she kidding?]

*Next week, he'll be off vacation and that'll be a problem.
*If he isn't confident, he's not a leader and if he is, he's "presumptuous." See story about the pathetic Dana Milbank here.
*If he doesn't go to Iraq, that's a problem and if he does, then he's just showing off.
But none of this has gotten them where they want to be, so they just repeat every single,  scurrilous lie McCain and his wrecking crew fling outward.  Among the lies:

G求He'll "raise most Americans' taxes," even on those just making $42,000 a year.  False.  95% of Americans won't pay higher taxes under an Obama presidency.  See the Daily Howler on that here.
G求he is a "Muslim." False.
G求he "went to a madrassa." False.
G求he "doesn't put his hand over his heart when he pledges allegiance." False
G求he gave a "terrorist fist jab." To Michelle. False.
G求his wife refers to "whitey." False.
G求he "isn't a citizen." False.  But guess who was not even born in the US?  That's right, John McCain (born in Panama).  Of course, McCain's father was in the military in Panama.  But you won't find many Democrats trying to lie about McCain's citizenship.
G求he snubbed the troops. Blatantly false.
G求he has flip-flopped on withdrawal. Baltantly, outrageously false.

Are media figures in first grade?  If you think this game is rigged, so Obama can't win for "losing," you'd be right.  He's ahead in the polls, he's tracking toward a significant win in the electoral college.  But the media have other ideas.  And so, the lame, disgusting, immoral, savage mainstream media truly astound.

If John McCain says he did nothing wrong with Vicki Iseman, then he "didn't." Period.  Even though we know he did.  It doesn't matter if he didn't literally have an affair with the woman.  We already know for certain that he traveled with her, aboard her jet.  That's illegal.  Where is the media?  They buried that (most important) part of the NY Times story and pretended it wasn't there.  But there is the same McCain lapdog press to destroy what peace Elizabeth Edwards may have left for fun and profit.  There are Democrats to destroy, after all.

Somewhere along the line, voters must hold lying, despicable, candidates and their adoring press accountable.  The time is right.  May this be the election in which voters say enough and send the scheming liars packing--all of them.

Meanwhile,in a truly brilliant compilation of media failures vs. what the media might have achieved these last eight years, Nance Greggs (at DU) has a fantastic post up here

Indeed.

PS You may want to print for safekeeping her list of media failures.  It's a keeper.

Well (corinthian - 8/12/2008 2:23:43 PM)
It is true that he went to a madrasa. Madrasa is Arabic for school. I acknowledge the media has transformed it into meaning "terrorist brainwashing camp" but I'm just sayin'...

Oh, please. (KathyinBlacksburg - 8/12/2008 4:03:51 PM)
