Help Wes Clark fight "right wing freak machine"

A little over a month ago, following my appearance on Face the Nation, the right wing freak machine took me out of context, attacked me, and just wanted me to "hit the road."

Well, I'm here to tell you: I'm not going away.

We simply have too much to do in these final three months. We have to elect Barack Obama the next president of the United States. And we have to give him a working majority in Congress. So let's give the right wing what they asked for. I'm ready to "hit the road" and help Democrats across the country!

Contribute to WesPAC's "Hit The Road Fund!" Help us raise $25,000 by this Friday.

I'm committed to doing everything I can to help Democrats win this November. I've opened up my schedule and am ready to hit the campaign trail across the country. That's why I'm traveling across the country over the coming weeks.

I can only do this if WesPAC has the financial resources to keep me on the road these final three months.  That's why we started the "Hit The Road Fund." I need your help to make sure I can stay on the campaign trail to help folks like Charlie Brown (CA-4), Eric Massa (NY-29), and Bob Tuke (TN-Sen).

I've set a goal of raising $25,000 by this Friday. Make a contribution to our "Hit The Road Fund" today!

When people hit you, you have to hit back. I won't back away from a fight, and over the years we've gotten to know each other, I know you won't either. Please contribute to our "Hit The Road Fund" today!

Electing the right people this November will be critical to securing America's future. Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Wes Clark

Still hoping for a Clark VP Pick (Ron1 - 8/11/2008 4:09:09 PM)
I still think the pick will be Kathleen Sebelius -- and I'll be very, very happy if she is the pick.

Still, General Clark would be a great big middle finger to the right wing noise machine and would indicate that Obama is going to run a general election candidacy that won't back down to anyone. Wes Clark has become the best anti-McCain and Democratic foreign policy messenger in the party, by far. In this type of environment, he'd be a tour de force.

[If it's anyone other than Clark or Sebelius, unless it's someone out of left field like Brian Schweitzer, I'm not going to be all that impressed with the pick. Kaine, Bayh, Biden, Nunn, ... blecch. I'd be more than fine with Hillary as VP, but I just don't see it happening because of the Bill issues.]

Agreed. (Lowell - 8/11/2008 4:09:56 PM)
Obama-Clark 2008!

Speaking of which... (Lowell - 8/11/2008 4:14:19 PM)

... use of "Securing America's Future" as third night convention theme (Greg - 8/11/2008 4:36:40 PM)
See:

Dem Convention to focus on unity, security, change

WESPAC

It does seem like a bit more than a coincidence that the theme for the night the VP makes their acceptance speech would be exactly the same as the slogan for Gen. Clark's leadership PAC.

He is uniquely poised to unite the party too n/t (KathyinBlacksburg - 8/11/2008 5:21:33 PM)

Securing America (vadem - 8/11/2008 8:12:41 PM)
The use of the name of Wes Clark's website, Securing America, as the "theme" of the Wednesday night speeches at the convention has nothing to do with a VP pick.  This is from someone  associated with WesPAC who would have a good idea. Instead, Wes' email to his list today says he will be working to elect Congressional Democrats this fall. Someone who's about to be picked as a VP wouldn't be raising money for his PAC so he can travel on behalf of Dems. Instead, go here www.securingamerica.com and contribute to help the likes of Eric Massa among other great candidates!

Obama and his campaign clearly and publicly dismissed Wes Clark a few weeks ago.  Their loss.

Perhaps (Tiderion - 8/12/2008 1:48:02 AM)
But it would be a great cover to not get outed early. Sad day if we get someone lame like Kaine. I will be thoroughly unimpressed with both camps then.

The Lakoff Trap (Matt H - 8/11/2008 4:37:17 PM)
I don't understand why we still allow the right and the media to write-off Clark as a great choice for Veep.  Instead of debating the merits of what Clark said about McSame, they chose to attack Clark for giving his seasoned opinion about McSame's military acumen.  Why don't we take the lead and frame the issue as one that questions McSame's leadership ability, and focus of attacking him instead of playing defense.

Who is "we?" (Lowell - 8/11/2008 4:43:38 PM)
I for one don't accept the right-wing and idiot media frame of Clark. I've been fighting it all along.

Standard tactics (Cliff Garstang - 8/11/2008 7:19:02 PM)
It is business as usual for the Republicons to take comments out of context and use them to attack individuals, in an attempt to deflect from themselves the criticism the original comments were meant to highlight. This is what has happened in Clark's case and, if anything, the Right's attacks on him have made him even MORE attractive as a potential running mate. If not a running mate, then an attack dog. Get 'em Wes!

Traditionally (Tiderion - 8/11/2008 8:06:47 PM)
You want to use the VP as the attack dog because people really only elect the President. Seeing as Clark is really the only person who has stood up against McCain in a major way means he already ready for the job. His military experience is impressive even if some in the military didn't like his quick climbing of the ladder. The NATO job is really good foreign policy experience as well and he responded well to a situation even though it was seen as controversial.

There really is nothing wrong his candidacy at all. I like it.

And really dislike Lieberman.

It's more than right wing. (vadem - 8/11/2008 8:15:11 PM)
Sadly, some in the Democratic Party have joined in the right-wing freak machine that Clark referenced.  Just a week ago on Meet The Press, John Kerry did the same thing.

Sen. Obama should read Wes Clark's June 25th email - He's Proven VP Material (Shawn - 8/11/2008 4:57:52 PM)

Dear Shawn,

Barack Obama will bring the change our country so desperately needs -- while John McCain is offering 4 more years of Bush. Join me in supporting Barack Obama for President. Click here to donate to his campaign today!

This year, we're facing the most important election in a generation.  As Americans, we must ask ourselves which candidate will bring about the change our country so desperately needs. In my opinion, Barack Obama is the only candidate with the judgment to move our country forward.

The disastrous consequences of George W. Bush's poor judgment over these last 7½ years are all too apparent.  Now, John McCain is offering 4 more years of Bush -- while Barack Obama offers the change in direction our country so desperately needs.

Barack had the judgment to oppose the war in Iraq before it began, and he is ready to bring our troops home and end the occupation of Iraq in a responsible way. John McCain has said that American troops should be willing to stay in Iraq for 100 years.

Barack will engage in the diplomacy that is necessary to bring stability to the Middle East.  Just like George Bush, John McCain repeatedly resorts to saber-rattling and threats about invading Iran while revealing a startling ignorance of the basic issues that define the politics of the region.

Barack knows we have to invest in renewable energy to end America's dependence on foreign oil and fight global warming. And like George Bush, John McCain is in the pocket of big oil.

It's about judgment -- and I think the answer is clear.

Join me today. Support Barack Obama's campaign for change by making a contribution before the June 30 deadline!

While I respect John McCain's service, I know exactly what he stands for -- Bush's third term.  And in national security terms, John McCain is largely untested and untried. He's never been responsible for policy formulation. John McCain is calculating that he will use the national security debate to his advantage.  He's wrong.

Like Bush, McCain has always been for the use of force, force, and more force. In my experience, the only time to use force is as a last resort. When John McCain talks about throwing Russia out of the G8 and makes irresponsible comments about bombing Iran, he reveals his own disrespect for the office of the presidency.

And while he's all too willing to continue putting our troops in harm's way, John McCain initially refused to support providing benefits like the new GI Bill to our veterans because he believes that providing good education opportunities to our troops will hurt retention. That's ridiculous.

We need new leadership in the White House -- not George Bush's third term. Join me in supporting Barack Obama's campaign before the June 30th deadline!

Last week I sat down with Barack Obama. I know he's the right person to lead our country forward. Now we need to come together and support his campaign for change.

As I see the sacrifices our troops and their families make every day; as I see Americans buckling under the weight of record high gas prices; and as I see families struggling with sky rocketing health care costs, I know this:

We simply can't afford another 4 years of the McCain-Bush-Cheney agenda.

We must change the course of our country's future. We must elect Barack Obama the next president of the United States. Contribute today!

Thank you for all you do.

Sincerely,

Wes Clark

P.S.  The June 30th fundraising deadline is only 5 days away.  It's a critical milepost where the press and the pundits will be looking at the strength of Barack Obama's grassroots-powered campaign against John McCain's lobbyist-powered campaign.  Let's show America that Barack Obama has the strength, the momentum, and the resources to win this November.  Contribute to Barack's campaign today!

He went from third to fourth . . . (Bernie Quigley - 8/11/2008 6:39:21 PM)
to the front of the line again as per the events in South Ossetia.

Agreed. Obama could use Clark's experience in that region (Catzmaw - 8/11/2008 6:44:12 PM)
and his military judgment in these perilous times.  The Russians are only beginning their coordinated and well-planned push to virtually annex South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

What Makes You Think That They Will Stop There? (HisRoc - 8/11/2008 7:37:57 PM)
Russia's objective at this point is regime change in Tbilisi.  They won't annex Georgia outright, but they will install a puppet government.

This is just the beginning, folks.  There are numerous simmering hotspots throughout the former Soviet Union just waiting to ignite.
