Rove: Kaine "Would Be An Intensely Political Choice" For VP

Karl Rove on CBS' Face the Nation yesterday:
"With all due respect, again, to Governor Kaine, he's been a governor for three years. He's been able, but undistinguished. I don't think people could really name a big, important thing that he's done. He was mayor of the 105th-largest city in America. And, again, with all due respect to Richmond, Virginia, it's smaller than Chula Vista, California, Aurora, Colorado, Mesa or Gilbert, Arizona, North Las Vegas, or Henderson, Nevada. It's not a big town. If he were to pick Governor Kaine, it would be an intensely political choice, where he's said, 'You know what? I'm really not first and foremost concerned with, is this person capable of being president of the United States? What I'm concerned about is, can he bring me the electoral votes of the state of Virginia, the 13 electoral votes in Virginia?'"
Obviously Rove is going to try to destroy whoever Obama picks. But this gives us some insight into the lines of attack the GOP would use if Kaine were the choice.

With All Due Respect, (spotter - 8/11/2008 10:28:01 AM)
again, to Karl Rove, pretty soon the federal marshals will come back from vacation and take him away in handcuffs.  He can then pontificate about Gov. Kaine's lack of accomplishments from a jail cell.

Yeah because the Bush administration should be lecturing us on how to pick a VP (Silence Dogood - 8/11/2008 10:47:23 AM)

Whatever Karl Rove says... (Lowell - 8/11/2008 11:43:34 AM)
...on any subject, take the opposite and you're almost guaranteed to be closer to the truth.

So by that logic ... (TheGreenMiles - 8/11/2008 11:48:59 AM)
Kaine is an accomplished, long-serving governor who's the former mayor of New York City and is completely non-partisan?

Ha, good point. (Lowell - 8/11/2008 11:55:45 AM)
:)

I don't think Kaine is a good pick... (Jerry Saleeby - 8/11/2008 12:49:10 PM)
...but it wouldn't be because of what Rove has to say.  I would suggest that being Mayor of Richmond is far tougher job than being the mayor of some large suburban city.

Some folks here act as if the governor lacks any positive attributes.

"Intensely political?" He's kidding right? This coming from Rove? :-) n/t (KathyinBlacksburg - 8/11/2008 5:23:56 PM)
