Summer 004If no deal is reached by 12:01am Monday morning, 65,000 Verizon workers will go on strike. To begin stockpiling resources and to raise awareness of the situation, the Virginia Young Democrats Labor Caucus organized a food drive in Arlington on Thursday at Jay's Saloon, a longtime favorite of local Young Dems.

The event brought out some of Arlington's top Democrats, like Del. David Englin and Arlington County Democratic Committee Chair Peter Rousselot. Del. Englin staffer Johnalex Golden and Arlington Young Democrats Vice President Amanda Wolfe are pictured here showing off some of Del. Englin's donations.

Since we had 15 of Arlington's leading Democrats in one place, I figured I'd take a quick straw poll on vice presidential possibilities. The winners? On the Democratic side, Tim Kaine beat out Joe Biden and Wes Clark with Evan Bayh and Kathleen Sebelius also receiving votes. On the GOP side, Tim Pawlenty edged out Joe Lieberman with Eric Cantor, Bobby Jindal and Condoleezza Rice also receiving votes.

But the bipartisan choice for the evening?
Reagan the dog! Who, as you can see here, was so happy to be around lots of people and lots of cheese fries that we couldn't even get him to hold still for one second for this picture. His owners, customers who happened to be seated nearby, assured us that despite his name he was not sold on McCain.
