Kaine to Give Official State of the Union Response

The Washington Post is reporting that Governor Tim Kaine has been asked to give the Democratic Party's official response to President Bush's State of the Union speech on January 31st.

"Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi are scheduled to call Kaine Thursday morning to officially ask him to accept."

"They, along with Gov. Bill Richardson, the chairman of the Democratic Governor's Association, are expected to make the announcement Thursday afternoon,"

This can also be seen as a win for Mark Warner's presidential aspirations as inevitably his name will be linked to the speech.  It would have been unlikely for the Democratic Party to directly ask Warner, or any other presidential hopeful, to give the response so as to not show favoritism in the 2008 race.

Hat tip to the Richmond Democrat.

I hate declaring alignment with any party, but if Kaine ran for the White House in '08 or '12 I would very quickly be recruiting friends and family to vote Dem.  I wish I still lived in VA...

And I gotta tell you, when my sister met him a few years ago while we were trying to elect former Delegate David Brickley to the 31st gerrymandered district, she said, "Man, that guys CONNECTS with his audience...he reminds me of Bill Clinton."
