Vivian Paige has the scoop:

I've just learned that the 1st Congressional District Democrats have chosen Bill Day to challenge Rob Wittman. This comes just days after Keith Hummel withdrew from the race.

For more on Bill Day, click here and particularly here.    Let's hope that he's really running, and that he really takes it to this guy!

Awesome! (Sean Holihan - 8/4/2008 10:16:53 PM)
I love Bill Day.  A class act and someone who really sincerely cares about the Commonwealth and his fellow man.

Good luck Bill

Agreed. (Lowell - 8/4/2008 10:17:44 PM)
I am very happy about this!

I'm not sold yet (Tiderion - 8/4/2008 10:25:36 PM)
but given the opportunity to listen to him speak etc. i'll join up. Like I have said previously, we NEED a candidate running but we also have to be conscious of what that candidate and their campaign will do for the district in 2010. I'd love for any Democrat to win but if they don't we need to know we can walk away from it, especially with heads raised high.

Just wait. (Sean Holihan - 8/4/2008 10:36:04 PM)
You get to know Bill Day, you'll come to like Bill Day.

Absolutely right (legacyofmarshall - 8/5/2008 12:21:02 AM)
I've only met him once or twice but I must say:

a) He's a great guy, a wonderful Democrat, totally honest, and supportive of friends.

b) There are few stronger environmentalists who run for office in Virginia.

c) Hate to put it this way - but if nothing else a Bill Day run for congress (even if he loses) gives him stronger name recognition for next year's rematch vs. Lingamfelter.

VA-01 Campaign Experience (Bill Carlin - 8/5/2008 5:20:57 AM)
Bill was Shawn O'Donnell's campaign manager so he knows the territory and has put in the shoe leather and tread-wear to be a credible candidate.  He may have some deficits in the southern end of the district in the heart of Virginia's military-industrial complex but Shawn did get some positive coverage from their local press which may reflect the sentiment of the citizens of that area.

Well (Tiderion - 8/6/2008 5:08:57 AM)
if he needs people in the South. I'm in Williamsburg and am free. I committed myself to working on the Congressional race early on. Any chance anyone knows how to get in touch with Bil other than through his old website?

You gotta give the 1st District some credit here (Chris Guy - 8/5/2008 1:39:10 AM)
Keith Hummel's situation was a huge setback, but you can hardly ask for a better candidate than Bill Day.
