"Let them eat melons!"

With everything from groceries to gas costing more, with jobs leaving Martinsville-Henry County in a steady stream what has Congressman Virgil Goode (VA-05) been up to?

Handing out free watermelon and cantaloupe slices at Friday's Martinsville Mustangs baseball game.
Whoopee, now we don't have to cook dinner tonight!

Hey Virgil, what about tomorrow? What about the long term effects of your voting record? You tell us we need to drill offshore and in ANWR even though the evidence shows it won't change gas pump prices until about 2030, then you vote against promoting alternative renewable energy resources.

You tell us our borders are not safe and we are in peril. So you vote to waste our money on a 700 mile chain-link fence along the Mexican border, and vote against punishing the companies that hire illegals. It would seem to me, if you are so worried about National security, all options would be on the table.

Handing out melon slices is a nice publicity stunt, but paying attention to the needs of the 5th CD is what you really need to be working for. Bringing more and better paying jobs to the area, working towards a better economy, improving the infrastructure and supporting working men and women by supporting the Employee Free Choice Act. Focus on making the 5th Congressional District more attractive to businesses and tourism.

Remember Virgil, the voters in the district put you in Washington, not big business.

These are just few of the reasons why as a voter, a Virginian, a working class card carrying Union member I intend to support the candidate that has our interests at heart. Tom Perriello.

Congratulations to the Perriello campaign for being chosen as one of the DCCC's Red-to-Blue races. The national exposure and funding will help to put a real friend of working Virginians in the House of Representatives this year.

Speaking as someone who spent many months during the summer in Franklin County eating huge piles of watermelon and cantelope grown in my grandparents' gardens, I can tell you this was a good move by Virgil.....
