Europe's Fleeting Hope

Sen. Obama's speech in Germany was extremely emotional and indicative of the raw craving that Europeans still have for America to lead the world with a sane foreign policy.  It is also a reminder of our global sway that has been grossly neglected over the past eight years.

Throughout the speech I kept thinking of the movie "The Awakening", where a comatose mental ward patient is given a drug that makes him lucid and humane, but only for a few fleeting moments.

Then I was thinking about the misery all of us, as world citizens, will be faced with should Obama lose this November.  Billions of individual hopes will be dashed for the foreseeable future, and sadly we will only have yesterday's memories in Berlin to cling to.
