Where was Wilder today? (bamboo - 7/21/2008 5:11:12 PM)
For want of any other forum to ask this question, does anyone know the story behind why Doug Wilder was AWOL this morning for the vey impressive dedication of the Virginia Civil Rights Memorial in Capitol Square. His absence was stunning given the presence of nearly everyone else from the Kaine administration, former governors, African-American GA members, Bobby Scott, Julian Bond, et al. Even Bob McDonnell muscled in for a few words, though he was not on the program.
What's going on?

Obama statement (Lowell - 7/21/2008 8:49:25 PM)
U.S. Sen. Barack Obama issued the following statement today to mark the unveiling of the Virginia Civil Rights Memorial on the Capitol Square in Richmond.

"Congratulations to the people of Richmond and all of Virginia for honoring their own heroes in the story of the civil rights movement. As we keep working to close racial and economic gaps in education, health care, and the justice system, we keep the Virginians it honors in mind as a shining example that people who love their country can change it." - Senator Barack Obama.

update.... (bamboo - 7/21/2008 7:21:21 PM)
Richmond TV news tonight reported that Wilder had another engagement....not very convincing since this important gathering had been scheduled for weeks.
