Top McCain Advisor: We're in a "Mental Recession" and are a "Nation of Whiners"

We'll lead off with Barack Obama's skewering of the McCain camp's view that declining home values, rising unemployment and inflation are all just "mental."  For more, including the original statement about how we're a "nation of whiners," see the "flip."  Yeah, Sen. McCain, you certainly were correct when you said you didn't know shit much about economics!

So many blunders, so little time. (FMArouet21 - 7/10/2008 4:49:59 PM)

Are the Republicans trying to overload the public's outrage circuits? Will Gramm's condescending econobabble receive the full measure of derisive news coverage it deserves? Or will it be shoved to the background by Bush's remarkably imbecilic "joke" today in Japan?

Here is a link to the latest head-shaker from the Current Occupant, who was saying farewell today to his G8 peers:

"Goodbye from the world's biggest polluter."

At least the European press is covering this latest tone-deaf, frat-boy sneer. What will the U.S. press do with it?

And remember, Bush has a little more mental horsepower than McCain, who was a bottom one-percenter at the Naval Academy. At least Bush managed "gentleman's C's" at Yale and Harvard Business School. As if mediocrity wasn't enough, the Republicans decided to dive downward to uncover an even worse candidate.

These are the new talking points (norman swingvoter - 7/10/2008 5:07:53 PM)
I saw a republican strategist on cable the other night.  She first said we are not in a recession as there have been no quarters with below 0 growth (I think that this part is true but we have to be on the edge of the abyss).  She continued that the news media are at fault.  They just report bad news and people are getting scared.  If everyone would just ignore the media and keep spending we will be fine. I checked out fox the other day.  So help me they were saying the same thing.  I think that this is just the new republican strategy to game the gullible.

Then I hope they keep it up (Ron1 - 7/10/2008 5:23:53 PM)
It's one thing to say "We're in danger from Islamists!!!?!! Vote for us, or you'll all die!" and make people believe it. It's a whole 'nother thing to say "The economy is fine. You are not struggling to pay your bills. Everything is fine. Gas and food and healthcare are not getting more expensive while your wages decline in real terms."

I mean, why not just try "These aren't the droids you're looking for" if Jedi mind tricks are what they're playing for.

Fabulous event! (LAS - 7/10/2008 6:13:39 PM)
I don't see how it could have been better. Everything ran smoothly; no problems, no fusses. (Was this a DEMOCRATIC event?) Obama, of course, was fantastic. Answered every question, connected with the audience and, most importantly, gave his props to his mother, grandmother, and wife!

Connolly and our first lady were also quite good.

Kudos to Obama's advance team. Professionals all the way. We could have used them at our state convention!

"Gramm the Scam Man" (Lowell - 7/10/2008 7:31:57 PM)

Check out the video from around the 4-minute mark.

Keith Olbermann spells out the behind-the-scenes lobbyist and former Texas senator, Phil Gramm who now lobbies for a major financial firm, UBS and the unethical practices of insecure sub-prime mortgages and then dumping them off on buyers in bits and pieces to form a lethal financial "stew."

Mark Russell asks (Lowell - 7/10/2008 7:35:01 PM)
"how a man who flunked out of three grades could go on to get a PhD. I ask if a man like this should be McCain's economic advisor."

That Explains the Bear Stearns bailout (hereinva - 7/10/2008 10:59:54 PM)
The largest fed bailout for an investment bank (March 2008) was merely a response to a mental recession?! And soon to be considered Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac ??

Seems more like an economic nightmare.
