WaPo: "Deeds Picks Up Endorsements in Moran's Backyard"

Interesting writeup from Anita Kumar at the Washington Post:

The event at the Fairfax County Police Association Hall will include Sen. J. Chapman "Chap" Petersen (D-Fairfax), Prince William County Commonwealth's Attorney Paul Ebert, Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney Ray Morrogh and former Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney Bob Horan.

"Creigh Deeds has the judgment, integrity and vision to continue the Warner-Kaine brand of leadership as our next governor," said Marshall Thielen, president of the Fairfax Coalition of Police. "Throughout his career in public service he has demonstrated an unqualified commitment to keeping Virginia safe and to ensuring law enforcement has the tools and training we need to do our jobs."

It was pretty interesting to see Senator Mary Margaret Whipple (Arlington) endorse Creigh a couple weeks ago. I personally credit Mary Margaret with being the brains behind taking back the Virginia State Senate... remember just a year ago everyone said we "needed to run the table", but through a successful program of expanding the map from 4 to 8 competitive seats, Democrats did the unthinkable and recaptured a Legislature in the South for only the 2nd or 3rd time. Mary Margaret is also easily the most popular and universally recognized (having served since 1976) public official in Arlington County... so needless to say her endorsment gives Creigh a huge boost in "Moran's backyard" as well.

I was at the event... (Bryan Scrafford - 7/2/2008 8:33:05 PM)
... and I have to say, I thought Creigh's speech was very impressive. He spoke a lot about his passion for public service and about how he realizes that a successful candidate, and governor in general, must be able to run on behalf of the entire Commonwealth and not just one region.

I'll be posting a more detailed write up of the event with some photos in the next day or so.

P.S. I do want to point out that I am officially neutral in the race at this point in time. I've met both Creigh and Brian and believe both of them bring a lot to the table.

Too early (tx2vadem - 7/2/2008 9:54:39 PM)
We are not voting for governor this year.  Our time need to be focused on the races occurring this year.  That includes turning Virginia blue for Obama.  It includes helping out all of the great house candidates we have.  And maybe turning the Virginia delegation to the U.S. House Blue (by majority anyway).

I appreciate that Deeds and Moran have the ambition and drive to be the next governor of this state.  But I don't want to get fundraising requests this year from them (I have, but I don't hold it against anyone yet).  And I don't want this to take away attention from the immediate matters at hand.

I think this is too early.  We just had a contentious primary, can we take a break?

Agreed. (Lowell - 7/3/2008 8:07:06 AM)
I'd focus right now as much as possible on electing Barack Obama, Mark Warner, Judy Feder, Tom Perriello, Glenn Nye, etc.  2009 will be here soon enough...
