Global Warming Wins Again

Dominion, and their proponent Governor Tim Kaine, have won the battle to build another dirty coal plant.  This is a sad day; a day when we look to leaders like Senator Obama to take us in a new direction, yet all we get is the same old polluting direction from Virginia's leaders.  This is a sad day; a day following dire warnings by climate experts that we must act immediately and the only action we get is approval for a power plant that will contribute even more to the Global Warming catastrophe we face.

A sad day indeed.

Very little leadership anywhere (Ron1 - 6/25/2008 10:50:28 PM)
National Dems are showing again that they are mostly cowards as well when it comes to fighting for the truth -- unfortunately, including Senator Obama. Expediency and letting the status quo reign supreme are the coin of the realm.

We need to build leaders and networks and communities that we can count on, that we don't have to spend all of our spare time fighting against when they should be on our side in these crucial fights.

We have some good candidate for both the House and the Senate nationally that fit this mold -- that's where I'll be concentrating my effort through November. Here in Virginia, I see a number of people that are worth fighting for in the Congressional seats.

The important thing for us to do is to keep pressing and organizing until the day comes when our leaders catch up with us.

I'd like to know (Hiker Joe - 6/25/2008 11:12:17 PM)
which Virginians you consider "worth fighting for in the Congressional seats."

I'm looking for true progressives to support, rather than the Corporate Democrats that seem to be getting all the press, so I'd appreciate your perspective.

Moran and Scott? (Craig - 6/25/2008 11:21:04 PM)
They're "Corporate Dems?"  First I heard.

Moran has some areas of weakness (teacherken - 6/25/2008 11:49:10 PM)
most notably his support of the bankruptcy bill, which he denies was in any way connected to the favorable loan he had gotten from a major credit card issuer

also, he supported starting the impeachment inquiry against Clinton.

Well (Ron1 - 6/25/2008 11:49:16 PM)
I'd start with Judy Feder and Tom Perriello. They seem like honest and true people to me. Also, Andrea Miller looks to be exceptional, but that's a race that's gotten very little play in the blogosphere, meaning she's probably not very plugged online in as of yet. Glenn Nye also seems like a good bet, a good person.

So, that's where I'd start, personally (and plan on helping if/when I can).

Frankly, the three longshot Dems in VA also look like good people, but those races are much, much tougher.

My $.02, since you asked.

Head bowed ... (A Siegel - 6/25/2008 11:00:55 PM)
I (we) fought hard to get Tim Kaine, who claimed to actually care about the future, to be governor. No, the choice wasn't bright, with Kilgore, but Kaine looked to be someone to be proud of having worked to get into office.  Sebelius vs Kaine:  What's the matter with Virginia?

Tim Kaine is the big loser. (Shenandoah Democrat - 6/26/2008 7:51:02 AM)
Our governor blew a golden opportunity to show progressive leadership. He'll never get elected in Virginia again. And every time I see the increasing haze over the Blue Ridge I'll think of our spineless governor, the man who stayed bought.
