Check It Out!

As they so often do, the corporate media appear to be ignoring a major story. Am I surprised? Not any more.

McClatchy today began a series on Guantanamo, based on interviews with more than 60 prisoners who had been held there. Their conclusion: many of the administration-described "worst of the worst" are simply people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time, sold to the U.S. government by tribal enemies or unfriendly neighbors.

I am not going to try to summarize Tom Lasseter's fine work, that would be doing him, and you, a disservice. Go read it for yourselves:

Sadly, I am no longer surprised at anything this lawless administration does. But as someone who earned my living as a journalist for nearly 45 years, I can still be shocked and saddened by the decline and fall of a once-mighty national resource.

What I consider the "big three" of print--The LA Times, NY Times and Washington Post--had no mention. Neither did CNN or MSNBC. Nor did CBS or ABC on their evening news.

I'm writing this to push the story as best I can. Read it and pass it on. Thanks.

I was so impressed with the story I actually forwarded it to (Catzmaw - 6/15/2008 10:34:46 PM)
Eleanor Clift, whom I watched today on the McLaughlin report defending the Boumediene decision against the rest of the panel and an even more obnoxious than usual McLaughlin.
