obviously this was created for Daily Kos.  But I thought some people here might want to meet a very interesting candidate whom I consider a friend.  We schedule this for Wednesday, even though I have to take Barry to the airport, in order to ensure we did not conflict with the Virginia primary on the 10th

Congressional Candidate Barry Welsh, running in the Indiana 6th against Mike Pence, is going to be in Washington next week.  I have set up a meet and greet / meetup event at Hawk 'n Dove on Wednesday at the close of the work day.

Barry is an active member of the DailyKos community.  If you were in Chicago for YearlyKos 2007 perhaps you had a chance to meet him.  Below the fold I will give a bit more of his background.

For now, consider just this.  In the May 6 Indiana primary, Barry got 94,924 votes while Pence received only 43,795.  While this is not an easy race, it is clearly doable, which is why Barry is meeting with the DCCC.

So hold the date and time and prepare to come on

Wednesday June 11
5-7:30 PM
Hawk 'n Dove
329 Pennsylvania Avenue SE

we will be in the party room.  It is a cash bar.  Not a fundraiser (although feel free to contribute on the web page), but a chance to meet a great candidate.
About Barry, let me quote from his webpage:

He is a life long resident of East Central Indiana and attended Tri Jr. Sr. High School, Ball State University, and United Theological Seminary, in Dayton.

Barry is a United Methodist Minister, a former Business and Finance Manager, High School Teacher and Coach. Born in Rush County, he was a high school athlete and scholar in Henry County, went to college at Ball State in Delaware County and now lives in rural Fayette County with his wife Sherri and their their three dogs Mogli, Spike and Princess. Barry was also an on air radio personality at WIFE FM 100.3 in Connersville, IN under the name - Allen Berry, and was News Director when he resigned from the radio station to run for office.

As a radio personality, Barry used his notoriety over the years to aid charities and to raise money for those in need, including children who are less fortunate at Christmas, and the 'Coats for Kids' campaign. He was also responsible for numerous fundraisers, including helping a widow of a soldier killed in Iraq. Mr. Welsh has also been involved with Blood Drives as well as other numerous community events.

A High School teacher at New Palestine High School, teaching Government and Economics, two of his seven major subjects, which include, Psychology, Sociology, World History, United States History, and Geography.

He was a member of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers while working at United Telephone in Fortville, Indiana, and he was a member of The Indiana State Teachers Association while he was a teacher..

Barry is married to Sherri Welsh and together they have four daughters, Stephanie 13, Kelli 19, Saren 21, and Caylen 23.

What else could we ask for in a progressive candidate?  He is a minister, a former teacher, a radio personality, a union member, and a life-long resident of the region he seeks to represent.

Come meet Barry on Wednesday at the Hawk 'n Dove.

See you then!
