From the Warner for Senate campaign.

Friend  -

The fight at the Virginia Republican Party convention this weekend was extremely close and hard-fought - and Jim Gilmore immediately went on the attack against Mark Warner.

Even the Richmond Times Dispatch said today that the tactic suggested "desperation" and noted that the Republicans are "more interested in posturing, more interested in appeasing interest groups, and more interested in partisanship than in getting things done."  Yesterday, the Lynchburg News & Advance said our opponent will likely run "the kind of street brawl campaign you normally would expect to come across in New Jersey or New York."  New Jersey and New York in Virginia???  The newspaper even asked him to "give the state's voters a campaign of ideas and civil debate, not the slash-and-burn techniques that have characterized the past."

Virginians deserve better.  We have seen enough bitter partisanship to know that it doesn't get the job done. The only way we're going to create the jobs of the future, reduce the deficit, and put our country back on track is by working constructively to tackle the major challenges staring us in the face.

Will you write a letter to the editor telling your local newspaper that Virginians deserve a positive campaign focused on how we can move our country forward - not the divide-and-conquer politics of the past?

Now that the other side has settled on their candidate, we need to ensure that we set the tone of this race.

Our country faces serious challenges and our political discourse must rise to a level commensurate with them.  That's why we need to let every voter in Virginia know the truth about the type of campaign Jim Gilmore plans to wage.

We can prove that a positive, forward-looking campaign can defeat the same old tired, textbook political tactics that so many of us just don't trust anymore.  But we need your help.

Write a letter-to-the-editor from our action center.  Tell your local newspaper that we deserve a positive campaign focused on how we can move our country forward - not the divide-and-conquer politics of the past.

Thanks so much for your support.  Together, we'll get our country back on track.

Best,

Jim Gilmore - the $6 Billion Dollar Man. (Bubby - 6/4/2008 12:21:32 PM)
When Gilmore stripped local car tax revenues from the budget he clearly had no clue what it would do to the State General Fund - which made up the difference to the localities.  So, as Sheriff Farley noted, local services were in jeopardy. Public Safety, Fire Departments, critical Emergency Services.  And as the weeks and months wore on in the early Warner governorship, Mark Warner found that he had actually inherited first a +$3 Billion deficit, and finally a $6 Billion dollar Gilmore deficit.

And then Warner fixed it.  Funded State Universities, balanced the budget, leaving office with a surplus, and the best managed state in the nation.

Jim Gilmore - Borrow and Spend Conservative Dud

Jim Gilmore - Bush's First Failure (Bubby - 6/4/2008 2:55:53 PM)
In the aftermath of his "No Car Tax" budget hoodwinking of Virginians, Jim Gilmore became the darling in the new Bush Administration.  He was made Chairman of the Republican National Committee on the direct endorsement of George Bush (and his brain Karl Rove), hoping that Gilmore could spread his budget "skills" across America and bring about more electoral victories.

But within a few months Gilmore, serving as both Virginia's governor and the RNC Chair had lead the loss of his own governorship to Mark Warner, and administered an election disaster in New Jersey.  His own party in Virginia had revolted against his hand picked successor after seeing the $1.5 Billion/year deficit open up in the Virginia budget.  Republicans for Warner had been born.

With his now legendary tin-ear for political winds, Gilmore announced in the post election questioning that,

"I'm anxious to move ahead and to build this party".
The Bush Whitehouse had other ideas, and 20 days later Gilmore announced, '
I believe the demands on my time and the burden on my family is only going to increase over the next year.'
...and resigned as the RNC Chair. Gone in less than one year.

"Obviously the White House decided that the midterm elections were a serious matter and the substandard performance in the off-year elections this month wasn't going to cut it,'' said Scott Reed, a former executive director of the Republican National Committee.

Substandard performance.Another reason why Virginia needs to move beyond Jim Gilmore.

Jim Gilmore - 2008 Republican Presidential Pygmy Candidate (Bubby - 6/4/2008 3:10:51 PM)
In a field of pygmies.  And to be accurate, Gilmore didn't even make it to 2008.  He withdrew from the race in July 2007 having raised only $380,000 when his pygmy brothers were raising millions.

"Because of the front-loading of the primaries, I would have basically had to stop campaigning and spend full time organizing hundreds of people to raise money for me,"

Translation: "Why didn't someone tell that it takes money and supporters to run a Presidential campaign?"

Jim Gilmore - Fiscal Genius!
