At a press conference yesterday at the American Legion in Salem, Congressional candidate Sam Rasoul proposed several policy initiatives to increase veterans' benefits.

Sam announced his support for the new GI Bill proposed by Senator Webb. S.22 recently passed the Senate, but Congressman Bob Goodlatte voted against it in the House.
Sam also believes that we need to do more to address the mental health problems our young veterans are facing and reduce the time it takes to receive medical compensation. Sam pledged to support legislation with a goal of reducing the number of homeless veterans in America.  To combat homelessness resulting from unemployment, Sam promised to vote to fully fund programs that provide skills and vocational training for veterans.
When he is elected Sam will support changes to the National Defense Authorization Act that include provisions for time served to equal time home.
Sam is also supporting HR 676, a bill that provides healthcare to all Americans, including veterans.
