What's Important

I believe I have overdosed on the trials and tribulations of Hillary Clinton. That is, I no longer care if she is broke, why she does what she does, whether she will at some point leave the race or whether she will still be giving interviews on the convention floor as Obama makes his acceptance speech in Denver.

She just doesn't matter any more. It's kind of sad to see her driving herself further and further into irrelevance, but I really don't care. There's a certain classic theatrical echo about her as one of her best qualities--that dogged refusal to quit in the face of adversity--shades over into self-parody. But I don't care.

Here's what this election is really about; this is a letter to the editor that appeared in the May 10 issue of the Virginian-Pilot:

"The Long War
"Bryan Michael Rogers, our grandson, was 14 years old when this war started. He left for Iraq this week."

God keep him safe. And whole. If Hillary Clinton has anything to say about that, I might care.
